first launches

Well I finaly decided to try and launch my evo now that I have gotten a little used to the awd. I thought being an 05 MR my car had a 5k rev limiter but the tach was reving way past that. On my first try I reved to about 4k and then floored it and slipped out the clutch. The car slipped untill about 6500 rpms then started to pull pretty hard. On my next try I reved it to 5k and then slipped the clutch a little less and heard a little wheel spin but it didn't seem to just get up and go. Also I can feel the rear end engaging after I have already started the launch. Maybe putting the acd in gravel/snow will help? Please discuss and post ways for me to improve my launches.
