Launch ruined my day :(
he probebly doesnt know. I know when I launch I am not looking at my speedo just the road. for me its kinda a zen thing, things in this car happen to fast to be watching any guage for longer than a glance.

This thread is almost useless besides the clutch restrictor info because the first post has been DELETED!!!. If it read something like this that happened to me lastnight...
I tried to launch my Evo 2 lastnight and on the first run I had some insane slippage... to where the revs shot up to 7k. I stopped immediately as I thought I had damaged something in the drivetrain. I took a deep breath, put it in first and then drove off just to make sure it was just clutch slippage. Thankfully it was only clutch slippage but the burnt clutch smell was suffocating. I gave it 3 more runs and it was fine but still a little hot.
I don't know if my car has the restrictor clutch or not but I'm happy that all it was was clutch slippage. The previous owner of the car has given me a new clutch that he had purchased to be put in since he had been doing some hard launches of his own.
My question really is with the NEW clutch if I should ever make that mistake again will the clutch take the beating again or will the new clutch grab more and possibly break something on the drivetrain?

Properly break in the new clutch before you launch, powershift, or anything that is abusive to it. If it is a stronger preasure plate and different disk, ala act2600, the clutch will take much more abuse.
Thanks
It is a stronger pressure plate and stock clutch set up.
I have since figured out that what happened was I did not release the clutch pedal fast enough and the clutch simply spun under the pressure of the high rpm launch.
I've been dropping the clutch at 6500 rpm and getting 1.8 60's out of the car now.
When this old clutch is done I will limit my time at the track.

point well made. thats why they have the defi control unit II that records your data so you can look at it when you are stopped.
