hit a curb
hit a curb
so my buddy hit a curb in his evo 9 , he was at a light , turning left and was in first gear , he started to accelerate on purpose so the car could get side ways , well.. it did and started sliding and the car endup up doing a 180 and he hit the center divider curb.. and he was facing the street at the opposite direction. how could of he prevented this ?? counter-stearing?? , it was raining at the time and he has stock advans (7kmiles on them). i know you guys are going to say, he could of prevented this by not trying to get side ways .. but he cant rember if he did try to counter stear because it happen so fast.. luckaly only his tire got a little banged up .. any hints .. hes not going to try this ever again but im just wondering ,.. was there anythin he could of done to pervent the car from doing a 180 .. the ground was very wet..

well we looked at the car, and the tire kinda got a little banged up , its not flatt thow but thats about it, the rim wasnt dented andthe front bumper is in good condtion , he was freaked out because he hit the curb and like went on top of it. bleh he just wants to know was there anythign he could of done .. not to crash ..
Double check the rim. When i hit i thought my rim was ok besides the scratches, turns out i had to replace it and it wasnt even fixable. Ask him if there is any vibration at certain speeds.
take the wheel to Wheels America, they can even cut out unsavable dents....saving the spin, yes, moderating thegas, and turning into the drift, will prevent the 180 spin. I joined Motor Sport Ranch just to be able to learn to play in a safe place. i played in the rain to learn handling at slower speeds. The Yokos are great inwet. Go join the local autocrnss club for almost free instruction, and fun. I can almost guantee no more damage!
I'll bet your friend lifted off the throttle when he started to slide a bit too much, that unloaded the suspension and caused an even more severe yaw. He should have gone neutral throttle and then turned into the drift like DEVO330 said ^. Also there is too much torque in first gear when you get up in the revs, that gear is going to be hard to master countersteer in and throttle control at the same time, try this kind of stuff in second gear at an autocross and that will build skills and experience getting sideways.

+1 it takes time to get used to sliding in 1st gear. cuz its AWD, letting completely off the gas or punching it all the way doesn't help.
Having said that, if you're really interested, look at this thread: Sliding in the wet doesnt feel neutral
You're basically reposting the same question.

Thought it was a bad idea to try and drift these bad boys because of the AWD and ACD. Isn't that why they came up with the RWD MR in Japan? Well, this is why I love this site. I learn something new everyday.
(1) Stock Advans, allegedly, sucks in the rain. I took mine off after I bought my car and installed Michelin All Seasons.
(2) In an Evo, as well as in any hyper car, things will happen rather quickly and alarmingly if you're unprepared for it.

It's not allegedly it's true! Snow? Forget about it!
