Launching the EVO

Hey guys, just got a brand new 06 MR and have been breaking it in for a couple weeks now and was wondering is there any special way to launch this thing? Do you just pop the clutch or let it out a little slower? I dont want to burnout the clutch or anything. Cause i know someone who went to launch, reved it to like 4k and just rode it out and all that was left behind him was a trail of smoke fro mthe cluth (it was rather bad)lol. Thanks guys.

As you can imagine, this question has been asked countless times. I recommend reading the responses to all previous threads asking the same question. You are likely to find great suggestions along with videos as examples. I know, because I've responded a few hundred times myself and have multiple videos showing how to do it.

First tip - 4k is way too low - this is not a FWD/RWD car. Check the drag racing forum...

No the evo comes with launch controll, After you break it in and you wanna check it out just stop completely and push the clutch in and push the Throttle all the way, the RPM will bounce at around 5500, its the rev limiter or launch control or whatever they wanna call it, but it makes a good 2step. Just Kinda let the clutch out as fast as you can without getting wheel hop or breaking anything, don't ride the clutch like some people do. You should get a small chirping sound from the tires when you do it right. If you pop the clutch the car just bogs and you burn the clutch alot and it just doesn't work.

stock clutch , itll go fast with launching, took around 15 launches to make my clutch slip. 5k launch control didnt work for me, i go from 6100 rpm, around 12lbs boost on the 2step

at the same time you learn to launch the car, start saving up for a clutch and tranny

I like this idea. Just catch them up and pass them.

Learn to slip the clutch. That way you will keep both your clutch and transmission happy. Check in the drag racing forum (they seem to talk about it a lot there) ...

For most folks, it's the transfer case that goes first. The transmission is pretty sturdy.

From what I've read, its the clutch that will give first. Been there done that already! Oh, and the warranty wont cover it!!!! Grrrr.

Better off not launching your car. ;-)

Warranty won't cover it whether it' your fault or not. I had the tranny and transfercase go at 1,300 miles. Needless to say both pieces got the Shepard treatment. Biggest thing you learn with these cars is to save up tons of extra cash, we own modern days DSM's... lol.
