Donuts
ahha i didnt think about the front and back that way. But what about the tc. How exactly does it get damaged. I would imagine that if its in whichever gear its in ide be fine. only if it was changing gears r something that would cause it to mess up and grind maybe. Idk is that the problem grinding of the TC gears?
well really i dont even know how the transfer case works in the evo. What i know is there is one in a truck like my friends with 2wd/4wd and low and high. Evos r awd all the time so what does it do? Does it change with the ACTIVE part of the evos awd?
I would assume it's a problem with transmitting power to wheels with completely different levels of grip (ie. the fronts of have tons while the rears have none). I'm not a mechanic though so I can't really answer questions regarding the reasons behind damage.
Man most of you guys are like totally dull, give the guy some slack. We bought this car to have fun not just to go get gorceries in. Take a look at this pic of the other day, the Evo can do the tightest spins you will get dizzy. the car basicly spins around and around. Find a big parking lot a safe one with no people around. Start off in first trun in very tight and give it lots of gas the rear end will break away and then just enjoy the ride and watch out for th smoke that will fill your view. Do only 2 -3 spins not to heat your tires up where they will overheat ad chunk. Enjoy the pic and some of you guys need to enjoy your car, if you really have an Evo that is..
Or we want our cars to last longer than a year. Having fun is fine and dandy, I'm having a blast now that the roads are covered in snow, but doing things that are actively detrimental to the car just seems stupid.
ambystom01----as you can see in the picture your assumption is wrong; note 4 wheel tire spin in tire tracks. I dont see how this is any worse for the car than launching at 5200 at the drag strip. Beware though that Evos dont like tight right turns, oil starvation occurs; so like me do this in a left biased turn/spin. Enjoy but as always beaware of the "MAN" and be safe.....
I can understand that you will wear out the clutch if you do a dump to get the donut started, but I've seen videos where evos break out a donut while they are already rolling. They turn hard right or left and use the gas to get the car to silde, let off so it will grip, then gas it so that it maintains that tight turn, sliding the back around. Since this does not use the clutch at all, I can't see how it will wear it out.
Now in the point where the front tires have more grip then the rears... I fail to see how this causes something to break also. I mean, these cars were built to be able to send the power to different wheels when traction is in demand. So since you are spinning the back of the car out, won't the differentials send the power to the front, the same way as if you were on the track tuning and giving it gas at the same time? So if its a natural function of that car, how could this be damaging to anything but the tires?
Sorry for the long post but this is something that I've wanted to do for awhile now. People on this board have scared me out of it. Launching is pretty hard on not only the clucth, but the whole drive train, which also leads to breaking things and wearing down the clutch, but nobody flames any one for wanting to do it... As soon as you say AWD donut, everyone goes crazy.
