From: houston tx,
you blip the throttle while waiting for your lights, then fully drop the clutch (no slipping, it burns your clutch) ,while giving her full gas
...dropping the clutch is more harmful on your transmission than the clutch. Its alot easier to replace the clutch than it is to replace the transmission. I've not had the chance to drive an evo, but common sense would tell me that a quick-slip, while probably burning the clutch a lil, would be much less harmful to the transmission while still netting you very good 60ft times. cost of an aftermarket clutch: ~300 bux. cost of a new transmission ~2500 bux + labor... Is it really worth it to shave .02 seconds off your timeslip?

actually with an aftermarket clutch I would definetely slip it at launch. The theory of dumping being abusive is absolutely true. However no matter how hard you launch with the stock clutch, she will always slip a bit, so between the springs on the disc and the slipping that WILL happen is more than enough to protect the drivetrain. Now when I install an aftermarket clutch I will have to be the one controlling the slipping.

blip is kjind of like a tap. Like revving it a little around the range of rpm to build up some psis. I dont drag so no point in launching. I gave up in launching since i do not want to hurt my evo. I always mess up. I can do quick launches at 3-4K but not 5.5K

Easiest way to blip at a certain RPM is to get a 2-step or 2-stage rev limiter. My friend's GSX had one and it really works. Just don't hold it too long. You don't want to knock.

So, wouldn't holding the revs at 6k then fast slipping build the most boost...instead of blipping?

can't see the point in launching in 2nd until you get your car over 400-500 hp.

But launching in 1st isn't as hard on the clutch as people think it is. It is a little hard on the tranny especially when you start getting stickier tires. The good news is the Evo tranny has been rated much more bullet proof than that of many of its competitors, such as the WRX, STI, and SRT4 if that's any consolation to you.

where did you fine these ratings? I've heard the STI tranny is pretty massive compared to the evo tranny.

Any articles or reviews about this?
