I think he means turbo timer (TT), I used to park my car in gear but half the time forgot and stalled. Now I also have a TT and can't park in gear.

The parking brake is the first line of defence against the car rolling away. Putting it in first is added security. Since park in an auto actually locks the trans, you don't need the parking brake.

You really should keep the car in gear. At least it's better that risking the car taking off.

If you park in neutral, I think it might cause undue wear on clutch components. Somebody please correct me.

if i didn't have a turbo timer and autostart alarm i would...so obviously i don't. unless the car is parked somewhere for a long period of time, then i park it in gear after turbo timing it.

Parking in neutral does not cause wear and tear on your clutch, or any components in your drivetrain.

I don't drive an EVO but,
I always park in gear... 1st if pointing uphill, reverse if pointing downhill... and parked with the hand brake as well
The hand brake on my car tends to be weak (since by car is old and some brakes are worn) so i'm more confortable knowing it's in gear to provide slightly better defence from rolling away should the hand brake fail.

I'll throw in that it's a bad idea to use the parking brake when you're parking for a good amount of time (longer than a week) or if it's really cold out. Your rear brakes could freeze in place and it's awfully hard on the clutch to power through them to open them up again. But if you're driving regularly, then more power to you...

e-brake in neutral. always. living in florida i don't have to worry about anything freezing (as per neilscully).

and i hate it when i pick up my car from the dealer, because they always park it in gear with no brake, and i always stall and look like an idiot.

I think for most manual cars you have to disengage the clutch in order to start it up. Most people don't have the habit to check and see if the car is in neutral though, so they let the clutch back out as soon as the car is started and it jerks forward big time and stalls.

It was a mistake I swore would never make twice... Hey guess what, I made that same mistake more than twice.

****, I've made that mistake on two different TEST DRIVES. Let alone how many times I've done it at home (never let other people drive your car. If they don't do it the exact way you do, you get annoyed)
