dropped the clutch at 6500 and got tons of tire spin. Tire PSI was set at 40lbs. 60' was 1.81. I think if I would drop the preasure down to 20PSI I can get into the 1.7's.

drop it too fast and you jolt the drivetrain...which damages it...that's how trannies are blown and tcases go by bye....slip a little clutch and don't surprise your drivetrain with whiplash...

Which clutch setup are you using? With my stage III exedy slipping is out of the question. When I do slip it, it will slip entire 1st, 2nd and gradually grab in 3rd. i wont sidestep it ever again, destroyed my rear diff earlier this year doing so. Looked great leaving the line though

I don't dump mine but I slip it VERY quickly. This is on a 3-yr old ACT 2600 that has seen probably 300+ drag runs, nets me easy 1.6x 60's when done right. Mostly low 1.7xs. This is with antilag set at 4,750rpm.

^You need to search that one but you can disable it quiet easily.

I am all for slipping the clutch for a foot or so, so that you can take the slack out of the tranny components. Then just drop it... It will protect the tranny and won't eat up the clutch much. Thats what the DSM guys do anyways...

sure hope you guys dont hate me. but i stumbled upon this thread once again, and i got my skill down somewhat good, but i want to know how you MODDED!!! ralliarts launch??

perhaps its SOMEWHERE buried in this thread, but after 110 posts, i dont feel like reading all of it to see if you guys talk about launching stock ralliarts or modded ones... and when i say modded, i mean CAI, exhaust, pulley, manifold, downpipe, piggyback, clutch, flywheel, clutchline, plus other crap...

so with the clutch, flywheel, and all the hp gains, where do you guys launch? what do u do to the clutch...

and im goin turbo next month, how do u turbo guys launch?

thanks, and sorry for being lazy and not reading, just figured i'd post up and get a few quick responses.... thanks

I hate slipping the clutch... It usually smells like crud for days following the launch. I just drop the clutch, rev it up to about 5000 rpm, and on instict let go of the clutch and press the accel simultaneously. I got about a second's worth of peeling out on 4 wheels, but after that and the radar detector falling off, my car was off like a rocket. Scared that camaro to death...

Ive done the rev and drop and cant seem to have gotten it right. My last time i did it, ended up with an unpretty ending. I reved and droped the clutch and i heard a clunk clunk out of my rear differential, and now when i reverse and after i reverse and move up it makes that noise. I cant seem to figure out what happen. If anyone can tell me what you think broke on the car i will really apreciate it.

Well, to make a long story short parts of the rear diff probrably need to be changed...My luck I had to scrap the entire diff. When you changed the fluid in the rear diff did the mag plug have debre on it? If it did not then you may be in luck but still have it dropped just to make sure... If you havent changed the fluid yet...what the hell are you online for get to it.

I still will never understand the logic of people "dropping" the clutch to get there car going. The shock loading of the drive train components will make drive train soup.

Rule of thumb, if your Evos rear end stays squated throughout 1st gear, then you're launching correctly. If the rear end comes up during 1st gear.....you're not doing it right. Slipping the clutch to a point is the key. Just like racing a bike, slip that Mother F*(kin clutch.

4000K, with just a little bit of slipping ( go by feeling, less than a second ) ... just enough to kill the bog. it does the trick !

Really fast and strong launch.

If you interested, you can see in this video how i do launch without using a launch control on pavement.
Also you can see i do not drop the clutch you may say i do a two step clutch release.
I do preload for a quick sec or two with a ebrake .

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTKUjfgam1g

i still spin some tires at the launch. /there is an out side video of the launch too somewhere on the youtube.
