Tuning with Dyno Flash - case study #6 - Member EvoJimbo
Here is our good friend EvoJimbo who has had the Dyno Flash since almost day one - well over 20,000 miles on his Dyno Flash
EvoJimbo changed his intake from the HKS RS suction intake to a hybrid intake set up with an Apexi intake filter with the HKS RS intake tube. The result of this unusual combination was that his old custom tune was thrown off and he lost power.
Here is his base line with the old custom Dyno Flash for HKS intake along with his new intake set up
NEEDLESS to say - when you have a custom tune - if you change intakes you will need a new custom tune or revised base flash
ALL my full custom tune customers get free upgrade base flashes for life of the car
BTW This customers mods are
Hybird intake
3" exhuast
EVC V Boost controller
Walbro fuel pump

In tuning, I have learned that slow - steady - methodical corrections work best. I take small corrections at a time.

Things are starting to look very nice - we'll do another pass to back this up and make sure the car is not pulling any timing

Although the power is good -the peak number is not my priority. Whats impresive here is the shape of the tq curve and the area to the left of the peak power point. This car is am amazingly great car to drive on the road and has a great "feel"
Thanx for the smooth tune. I didnt kno that changing my RS filter to teh Apexi filter would make the EVO run that rich. No wonder my milage was horrible.
Once again thanx AL!!!! Regardless of peak power, the car is supper smooth.

EvoJimbo,
Any particular reason you changed from the HKS intake to the hybrid intake? Any difference in power between the two? I am still trying to decide what intake to get, so I am curious about your impressions of the intakes you have used.
Thanks!

I know that Jimmy liked the RS but didn't want to have to keep buying replacement filters, so he
switched to a filter that was reuseable.
I had no idea it would throw off the tune like that, but I guess it makes sense. It changed the way the air flowed
through the MAF.

The change of the filter housing alters the stream of air flow through the maf sesnor - this alters the reading on the mass air flow and throws off the tune
Air filter is the most important factor in setting up a through the mail flash - each design has its own unique foot print and must be compensated for
