2005 RS - Dyno flash increase?

Getting a 2005 RS in 2 weeks, I want to get the ecu dynoflashed, the stock power levels on the test drive were decent, but did not live up to the hype of the evo's.

I am trying to find the best combination of parts with a dyno flash that will give another 30-40hp at the wheels? Maybe 50hp?

The trick is I would like to keep the cost of upgrades (not including flash) to around $500? I would also like to avoid exhaust as thats a dead giveaway that I have modified the car to the mitsu dealer.

The air intake seems like a good way to start along with a walbro 255 pump. The air intake can easily be swapped out for warranty reasons.

Wondering how the 05's do with the dynoflash compared to the older moldels?

Roughly what kind of gains can be had with say an air intake (reccomendation on brand?), walbro 255 pump and dyno flash? I'll assume the car makes about 240hp at the wheels stock?

Sorry for the newbie questions, I have done alot of searching and the amount of info can be overwhelming, but we all have to be newbies at some point

Omniphil wishes there were some sort of staged upgrade guide

If you only have $500, I would suggest:
Keep stock air box.
Manual Boost Controller (easily removable) is about $100.
A decent boost gauge about $100.
Fuel Pump for about $100.

Use the other $200 for DynoFlash...
and start saving up for a new clutch if you are a new AWD driver and likes to launch

What about if the $500 dosent include the dynoflash?

can or should I add a cold air kit?

I am new to AWD, but I dont drag race, hoping the clutch lasts a while?

Take a look at case study numbers 17 - 20 - especially 20 in this forum and then we'll talk!

I suggest you get the same set up as # 20

Hallman MBC - $90
Walbro Fuel pump $90
Dyno Flash for '05 $199.99

You will have the same dyno sheet as case study number 20

Very impressive numbers. Curious as to why you need the boost controller? Isnt the stock boost level 20 psi and dosent the your flash take out the taper down to 17psi?

Or are you just adding the boost controller to change the rate of boost climb?

I guess im asking if I can avoid the boost controller? I'd rather not have the boost climb be so sudden like it usually is with manual boost controllers, it usually adds too much boost at part throttle and takes away some drivability. At least thats my experience with tuning other turbo cars....

Your thoughts?

For the $90 a Hallman MBC costs - we prefer its lazer like accuracy and significant reduction in boost taper - these cars come with gauges so its a no brainer
