This could be a minor problem like a bad oil pressure sensor - or a major problem like a failing oil pump or a spun rod bearing. If there is an oiling issue, major engine damage will very quickly occur. Therefore, my advice is do not drive the car until you can get a very accurate oil pressure gauge on the car to check the actual pressure.

If there is a oiling issue you may be able to catch it before further damage is caused.

Also, I would drop the oil right away to look for signs of any metal particles and cut open the oil filter as well and look in there.

I did run across two cars thus far which had faulty oil pressure sendors so keep your fingers crossed. Hopefully, your case is also a faulty sensor.

I really do not know what is the cause of your condition - I would be only speculating if I were to guess. I would like to hope that you may have disturbed something in your wiring when you were working on your boost controller, however I think that is a long shot. I know that there is nothing in the flash or ecu which can effect the oil light. It would seem to me as I posted above that either your sensor went bad, or perhaps something may have let go in the oil pump or engine.

I would suggest also that you ask the guy who sold you the car is he ever had that problem when you ask him about the previous flash and mods he had.

Finally, don't take this condition lightly - make sure you park the car until you get a accurate diagnosis.

Last year when my oil pump failed during a 3rd gear pull on the highway, by the end of the pull I had dameged two cam shaft journals and the crank.

By boost controller install, I mean the removal of your old Greddy Pro Fec B spec II and the associated wiring and vacume lines and the installation of the Hallman you purchased from me, and the then re-installation of the same Hallman two times when you did not install it properly the first two times. It is POSSIBLE you may have bent or somehow created a loose connection on the OIL PRESSURE SESNOR connector. It is easy to knock the plug LOOSE on the end of the spade blade that sticks out on the end of the oil pressure sesnor when you are working on wires and hoses going through the firewall on that side of the engine. I hope that is your problem and not an engine related problem.

I think I have given you about all the answers I can from this end. My number is at www.dynoflash.com.

Here is the testing procedure from the service manual

Since sealant is applied to the thread of the oil pressure switch and may e difficult to unscrew, take care not to damage the oil pressure switch when removing it.
3.Use special tool MD998054 to remove the oil pressure switch.
4.Install the oil pressure gauge.
NOTE: Use a 1/8 pipe thread adapter.
5.Run the engine to warm it.
6.After the engine has warmed up, check that oil pressure is within the standard value.

Standard value:
At idle: 29 kPa (4.2 psi) or more
At 3,500 r/min: 294 - 686 kPa (43 - 100 psi)
7.Remove the oil pressure gauge.

8.Apply the specified sealant 3MTM AAD Part number 8672 or equivalent to thread of the oil pressure switch.

Some welcome you are having to Evo ownership eh! I feel for you man!

The oil pressure sensor is located directly on the engine block under neath the intake manifold on the drivers side of the engine

There is a single wire that terminates in a black plug that clips onto the end of the sensor. It is easy to bend the end of the sesnor when you are working in that area (I have done it).

Take a look at the plug and make sure its very secure on the end of the sensor

Another thing you can do to further diangose it is to take the sensor off your car and try it on your pals car. What ever you do dont drive your car till you check the oil pressure with a reliable and accurate gauage and also check your oil.

If it were my car I would probably pull the oil pan and look at the rod and main bearings also - but that may be over kill ( I do it on my car after every race but I am crazy).

If you were going 70 all the way home and you had actual low oil pressure you most likely would be already hearing some very expensive NOISES from your engine

In any event - as I have said - dont drive it till you have it checked
