Happy with flash then added alky and got troubles

i did a base flash last week and then added alky day before yesterday. my plans were to tune the alky with the safc, wideband, and pocketlogger. after getting everything going the car ran great. the alky setup is unbelievalble. then i got up yesterday and started my car and noticed that it was idling rough. mainly has a lot of vibrations. the dash sounds like it's gonna rattle out. after giving a little throttle or cruising everything is fine. my alky kit turns on at 17psi. i have checked and made sure that it is not spraying before that, so that's not the problem. checked for boost leaks and nothing. also changed sparkplugs and it still is doing it. any suggestions? here is a log at idle through a 2nd gear pull to 6900rpm.

Since at idle the alcohol is off - your problem is in something mechanical that arose when you were using the alcohol - possible fouled plugs - possible boost leak, You need to undertake a general mechanical diagnosis.

i checked my compression when i changed the plugs. on a hot engine with the plugs out i got between 165 and 170 across all four cylinders. i am gonna build a boost leak tester tomorrow. hopefully that is it. also is it possible that it could be the balance shaft belt skipping a tooth or something when i was doing wot pulls while tuning?

Compression is normal.

Balance shaft should be fine unless you missed a shift

I'm just curious as to how well the SAFCII worked for the alky injection? I'm assuming you just take out fuel with the alky kicks in? Sorry I couldn't help with your problem.. I'm just curious george about alky and the SAFCII.

I want to state that tuning with alcohol is NOT for beginers and should only be attempted by those who have a good amount of tuning experience.

I wouldn't try to tune it myself :P I just cant afford a 500 alky kit + 500 for a tune. I do have some questions about flash + alky but I won't hijack the guys thread.

Forgive me for asking but what does STFT1 and LTFT1 stand for on your logs?

i am tuning it using my tps mode on safc hooked into a 3.5bar map sensor. i set my high throttle point to what my max boost is and my low throttle to my lowest vacuum. so instead of making adjustments based on tps you make adjustments as the boost climbs. this way is a lot more accurate and consistant than the traditional tps tuning. anyhow i do highly recommend you get a custom tune from al if you can. or at the very least get the base flash as a starting point. i would've just had al tune my alky, but working 40 hours a week and being a full-time student i didn't have time to drive to connecticut or some of the tuning spots in the recent past.

I've done some reading about using the afc with a map sensor.. to be quite honest it confused the heck out of me. Right now I've just got the base mail in flash.. did you get a base flash for the alky?

Amen to the working 40 and what not.. I'm in WV which is a ghost town for real tuners.. I will have to drive 300-500 miles for a custom tune

Thx for the tips
