Down to the wire . . . . Ohio show down, built it or busted
Just some updates for those who may follow my automotive adventures
I was in Puerto Rico tuning some evos this weekend at the world famous Sporty Dyno Jet and I was taken to school by the international cam timing king Harold Time who was able to pull 45 quick whp on TOP of my tunes with the expert maipulation of cam gear timing. I intend to write more about his methods and how it works at a later time, for now - he does not just set the gears at - 2 / -2 or any other set forumla - he actually measures the cam timing on the car and sets the gears to totally dial in the individual engine.
I just got back last night and I have been working all day to R & R my turbo set up on my car to get ready for the big race
As the race this weekend is non nos and full exhuats required, I felt that the GT40 was a big large for this kind of racing. The power level is huge on the GT40 but the slight extra lag to spool up between shifts adds up over 3 shifts so that at the end of the run almost all the extra power gains on the larger turbo are negated by the slower spool on the shift. The smaller GT35R is a lot easier to drive with out NOS spooling it and more consistant.
Going back to my old GT35R turbo seemed like moving in the worng direction and some how boring
I was feeling caught between a rock and a hard place unable to make up my mind on which turbo to use until David Buschur stepped up with a new TOP SECRET spec Buschur Turbo set up which uses a GT35 type turbo with a larger compressor wheel. Based upon preliminary testing it seems that this intermediate unit yields almost all the extra power of the GT40R while at the same time keeping almost all of the fast spool on the shift of the Gt35R. This new proptype is similar to the so called GT37R.
Seeing the amazing results that Pruven recently obatianed on the dyno with their Buschur Racing spec turbo, (See October, 2005 Turbo Magazine for details), I decided that I had to give it a try.
I am very pleased with this new innovation from Buschur Racing and also pleased that I was able to do some testing on this new proto type unit.
I have coined a nick name for this new turbo unit - I cal it the Blue Zombie.
Hopefully, I will have the whole car back together and running by tomrrow am in time to leave for Pittsburg tommorrow afternoon for a little tuning stop on my way to Ohio.
However, it seems I underestimated the jet lag, travel fatique and old age which would effect me and at almost 1:00 a.m. I am not feeling another 5 - 6 hours of wrenching on my car to make this race. As a one man team, tuner, wrencher and driver there is no one else to pick up the ball.
Its time . . . to build it or be busted! I just hope it all works as there is not much time left for repairs.
Hope to see some of you in Ohio

Ok, so we know what turbo you'll be running this weekend. What about the competition? From what I know most everyone is using the GT35R except for the AMS shop car.
