Dyno Flash and Buschur Racing going to SCCA national Runoffs
Nice Nice! Good luck to you and all the Evo people in the runoffs! I'm glad to see Michael Santos is going to make it as well, he's from NorCal and drives a white MR. Really nice guy.
Al,
What I think you'll find is that "10whp" or whatever margin you think you have is just one element in the equation and you could pick up speed in a lot of other places like shock valving, weight reduction (free HP there), over engineered cooling system and perhaps the most important factor:
The nut behind the wheel.
Keep us posted.

MY JOB is just the power and power delivery
Of course I am focused ONLY on the last 10 whp to keep the evo out in front of the dreaded slowbaru
Today, the entire front suspension was taken apart and a shock specialist is working on custom revalving to correct a particluar short comming related to this track.
HOOISER is the tire sponsor and they are working on tire issues - temps, pressure, etc
Other matters, cooling, etc are limited by class rules
The few things that are available to modify in this class are modified and re modified
Saturday the car comes back to the dyno to test the whp on the track tune I spent the past two days making to see if the 10 whp is really there

LOL.... We have one of those damn Slowbaru's runing in T2... but I am sure it doesn't make near the power the Evo makes.
But for the mods it does make some sick torque and alot of power. Best of luck with your Evo as I am sure it will make a ton of power.Doug

Hi All,
The problems for my Evo began at the Watkins Glen National. It was clear in qualifying that we had missed on the shock valving as the front tire temps were approaching 280 degrees and the car was not turning well. In the race another car oiled the track down and as I came out of the Bus Stop I immediately spun and went backwards into the armco at 90+ mph. The car then shot across the track and was hit twice by other cars. 9,000 dollars later I had the car back but lost all development time as the Runoffs were only a week away. I raced a Firebird to get enough points for the invite to Mid-O. The Evo's front shocks were re-valved again doubling the compression but were still bottoming out causing the car to push badly off the corners. Just before the race, we upped the nitrogen pressure to 250 lbs but the struts were still not working for the race. I was qualified 7th on the grid behind the Hemmingson, Skavnes and Rosenblum juggernaut. The STI team was very well prepared with full factory support which included an 18 wheel transporter, in-house tuning, suspension and data guys, and of course three cars. I can't say enough about these guys and my hat's off to them. They were prepared to win. During the race, I had a first lap altercation that resulted in a spectacular drift through turn one which put me back to 11th place. Time to put the head down and grind. After passing the pole-sitting Camaro, he hit me so hard in the rear that it pushed my exhaust forward kinking it 90 degrees and burned a huge hole in the bumper cover. The car was never the same after that and following the full course caution I had nothing for the frontruners at the restart. With an ill-handling down power car I got by one of the Subies who was forced wide and then defended 5th place with him banging on my bumper to the finish. Huge thanks to Dave Buschur who provided dyno time and everything else. He is first class. What can I say about Al Friedman? My motor was flawless and we were making big power compared to the STI's. With more suspension development time we would surely have had something for the Subaru's. Will report back with some pictures and maybe a little in-car video. Don't miss this one on Speedtv in December.
Cheers,

Cheers,
I can't wait to watch the TV show - I wish they would air it closer to the event date
Any form of racng is a tough sport that takes a lot of dedication, preparation and luck. Road racing seems to be about the toughest and most demanding motorsport activity. I commend you for getting so far in a car you drive yourself, wrench on your self and tow to the track yourself !!!!
Next time the Evo will win !
