TO: Anyone contemplating a DynoFlash tune...

Since I started modding the Evo, I've been interested in getting a tune to keep everything running optimally. I've read and heard good and bad stories about nearly every tuner on the board. Al seemed to get consistently good results but every time I mentioned DynoFlash it seemed like someone had a negative comment about the service or experience with DynoFlash.

I decided that the results would speak for themselves so I called Al a few weeks ago to set up a tune. In the end, I couldn't make it but Al kept a positive attitude and told me to call again when I thought I could schedule some time. I contacted him about meeting up last weekend (he was going to meet me at Newark airport after one of his tuning trips). My plans fell through again though, and I had to cancel on him a second time. When I contacted him to set up a meeting for Friday night I was hoping he wouldn't hold my other inconsistencies against me.

He agreed to meet me after hours (7pm) by his office to install a mail-in-flash. Even though I had left 2 hours early, I got stuck in enough traffic to make me about 15 minutes late but Al simply said "Don't rush, I'll be here whenever you come by"

We eventually met up and he installed a flash for my mods, answering a few questions I had about my mod path in the meantime. He did a test run and gave me suggestions about adjusting the boost and modifying my boost controller set up. The test drive was very professional, and I was happy to have Al run the car hard and make sure that it ran well.

A few hours after i got home he called to make sure I was happy with the tune.

The service was great...and the results?

He guarantees 20WHP and 20WTq on a stock car but more importantly, it feels like the entire power curve is fattened up. The off-boost power is amazing. There are no more bogging issues at all...the car can be driven in 5th at 40mph as smooth as butter. The car pulls very hard in all gears, even before the boost builds. This is certainly the best $199 I have ever spent on the car.

Al was very friendly and professional, he didn't exhibit any "tuner-arrogance," and the flash makes the car feel completely different.
Thanks very much Al!!!

After another day of driving the car i am only more impressed.

Just driving around town and on the higway (even off boost) the car feels lighter.
Cruising is effortless, with in-town speeds never provoking a downshift. There's no more bogging in 4th and 5th in the lower RPM ranges.

And, with 5 people in the car, it felt like it was pulling harder than with just me in it before the tune.

Al - I'm super impressed. thanks again!

it'll probably be another 6-8 months before i get a cams and i'll be looking for a custom tune then. there's no doubt that i'll be heading to Pruven and Al for the work and tune.

Yeah, I have nothing but good things to say about Al's work. Al can be a little harsh at times, but his work speaks for itself. He will definately be retuning my car after I get my cams.

glad your tuning went over well, but I must say...off boost maps are untouched by a flash. It is only WOT/full boost maps that are tuned. Partial throttle/closed loop maps are NOT modified. So your impression of the car running well under those circumstances is all in your head.

This is totally inaccurate

There are many things which I adjust on the flash which make the "feel" and "tip in" more crisp and clean

i thought, going into it, that only the WOT maps were adjusted. i expected nothing more than some power out of the upper rev ranges. i didn't want to sound retarded when Al called to check up on the tune but the entire ride home felt different off-boost. The real kicker was driving in 5th at 40 and dipping the throttle without any bogging. So i asked him if the off-boost maps were modified (because as i said before, i thought they were untouched) and Al confirmed my suspicions.

i know when i saw you at the hopkinton state park meet you expressed your displeasure with your tune from Al, but i must say, you had me worried about nothing at all.

i should've probably just gotten the custom flash but this will hold me over until i can spare the money for cams (and probably a clutch to support the new power) and a custom flash.
