I've had the BPR7ES's in my car for about 8,000 miles or maybe a little more. I don't mind changing them out often, but if I can get a plug that will last longer and make my car run better I would rather have a different plug.

Thanks for the help everyone.
For 93 octane without alc inj on mild to modderately moddified evos, (about 21 psi) Al recommends gapping BR7ES to 0.026 in (0.660 mm). More boost = gap smaller. I think the reason they like the BR's over BPR's is due to location of the spark in the combustion area, the BR's electrode are about 3mm up toward the head.

Change the plugs every oil change, I change every 2 oil changes because I change the oil every 2000 miles.

Why does every one take out the stock 15.00 plugs and put in 2.00 plugs?

Because the results are similar, and most people go a colder step. So why bother changing out a step colder and paying a bunch more.

Don't the iridium last alot longer and require less power to make a spark? Why change them every 3,000 miles in less than 20,000 miles you've paid for the good ones let alone the time.

What is 15.00 and 2.00?

I put copper ones in my car at 23,000 miles, it was also a good opportunity for me to inspect everything and do a compression test, also once you start tinkering with a car through moddification, there is a chance the stock plugs may go bad. Sorry, I gotta go to the bathroom

My local place doesnt have them... and they want 2.99 each to order.

Which local place is this? Try Murray's, Pep boys, or Napa

Protruding Nose is good for typical boosting (23 psi spike ~ 21 psi steady) = BPRxES

Non Protruding Nose is good for high boosting (27+ psi spike ~ 24 psi steady) = BRxES (Typically runs alcohol injection or race gas)

When to go a step colder is usually when you have added 100+ more hp to the car from stock. I will let Al speak for himself on exactly what he recommends.

BUT I have heard that the protruding (BPR7ES) will act like a 1/2 step or so colder than stock. (I forget why but it's somewhere in the abyss of EvoM)

As for why purchase a $2 plug as opposed to a $15 plug is simple, gapping Iridium plugs is not an easy task. I don't wish to bust a $15 plug while trying to gap it. I can tailor the cheaper plugs to perform better than the Iridiums by gapping them to what my car prefers. Plus, when you tinker with your car and change the mods constantly the plugs will usually need to be changed every now and then. I'd much rather spend $8 to change my plugs instead of spending $60 to change them for exactly the same spark. (plus the cheaper ones are easier to find on a regular basis)

Take what I recommend as you wish.

Ive been using the BPR7EIX and theyve been excellent. I run pump gas only at 22psi. They still look new after 15k miles!
