Case study # 105 - MR with cams (road tuned, dyno verified) !
Guys - here is a more normal power delivery MR from the last car in case study # 104 which was a freak
This gentleman had the following mods :
Blitz Air Intake (stainless)
AMS lower fmic pipe
HKS 272 int / 264 exh
Walbro fuel pump
APexi AVC EBC (not my favorite)
TXs Exhuast
93 Octane - 22 psi peak falling to 19.5
Custom Dyno Flash road tune
This car was road tuned as the AVCR is a boost controller which usually takes up a lot of time to tweak and adjust and the dyno shop was super busy today
I also wanted a chance to show how the road tuning with the 10 channel data logger stacks up against a dyno tuned car on the same day same time
Here is the final dyno sheet after two hours of road tuning and boost controller adjustment we put it on the dyno for one test pull - here is the curve and power
It was a great dyno sheet the AVCR was acting about a bit in the lower mid range which made the curve a bit wavy but other than that it was a really smooth dyno graph and great power delivery
Note we help this one out to 7600 unlike most of the dyno sheets I post which only go to 7,000 - I did this as the data logs I do on the road go to 7600 also

Now we see how on the road the G meter is actually following the tq curve which is what really measures the power of the car
The tq curve and G meter are both pegged to the boost taper of the apexi - nearly all 3 identical
Here is a log from the road tune
This is the acutal data I use to tune the car by observing the interrelationship between boost levels, G force and knock, tuning decisions and adjustments are then made
If you are tuning well and the car has no mechanical issues you will see the blue boost line and the orange G force line each run accross in direct relationship to each other just as smoothly as they do on this sheet
This results in the almost flat line of the tq curve as it falls down towards red line

This shows a 3D graph of boost, G and rpms and shows how smooth and even this car pulls on the road
BTW - no doubt there was an extra 10 or so whp left on the table with this tune but after over hearing how the customer likes to do some track days and drive the car very hard its wise to not have things at the very edge

My graphs are very similar to his graph's Al. Although a little lower...my max g force was .443 and I think that says .506. What would be the power difference in the two cars using the data combined with the dyno? I am assuming his larger intake cam may have something to do with the higher peak g-force number? Although his peak g force is higher the rest of the g-forces between his and my car are pretty much the same. What are your thoughts?
Edit: I weight 290 pounds soooo...I'm sure that helped to bring my g numbers down some.

did the car still have the stock exhaust?? I didnt see it listed with the other mods. Other than that, the power output is pretty good for the mods
Thanks for the explanation of the breakdown of the tune, very interesting..

Al this is my car, a few mods listed were incorrect. First my car is a 05 RS!
Mods
TurboXs Catback
TurboXs test pipe
HKS downpipe
Buddy Club Cams 264i/272e
Findanza Cam gears -2/-2
Apexi AVC-R ebc
Blitz Stainless intake
DSG 3' MAF pipe
Greddy upper/AMS lower IC piping
I worked on fine tunning of the AVC-R on the long ride home. Making adjustments to the solenoid valve duty cycle settings. Also made adjustments to the Feedback Speed Settings which helps correct unstable boost and is gear specific. I feel this is a great boost controller however it requires a far amount of tuning.
Al thanks again for the great Custom Road Tune
. This tune is much better then the Mail-In Flash and light years ahead of stock tuning
