Question Al, ? about flash detection

al, i was just wondering what the chances are that a dealership could detect your flash when taking it for service? it's an 05 MR and i have a panel filter and catback and would love a dynoflash but this is an issue that concerns me. before all of you jump on me and tell me to search, i have, but there isn't an answer i could find from an actual tuner, so i would like to see what al has to say on the issue. thanks al, and keep up the good work

Somehow I found it by reading threads, as I also have a 05 MR with filter and tbe.
The only way they will know is if they check it which a dealership usually have too much going on to check every evo for a flash. If they chck it, its detectable.

You could buy an extra ECU and have that flashed and keep your original one for servicing. I'v ethought about doing same, just not sure what the cost would be and best place to purchase.

Thus far it has not been an issue what so ever and we have not seen any dealer investigations what so ever

For those nervous for what ever reason I can flash your ecu back to 100% stock with no trace at any time you ask

yeah, but what's the cost to be flashed back to stock and then reflashed again? also, SGT. blammo, having another ECU requires a new ignition key to match it if you want it to start.

Al does this for you at no cost.

Sgt Blamo, that's not a good idea on an Evo. The ECUs are not interchangeable like they were in DSMs.

Warrtalon, Why are the ECU's not interchangeable? From what I read the immobilizer is separate from the ECU on a IX (according to a post I saw on here somewhere), so it doesnt have a "matching" key either.

I know on Subarus the ECU's are interchangeable. I know of several people who bought spare ECU's- one flashed, the other stock. Only on the older models however as the new one's have an immobilizer built into the ECU so it recognizes the key. Not so easy to swap ECU's on the new ones now.

I don't know where you got that part about the immobilizer being separate, but Al said there were disastrous effects when trying to mix ECUs. You would probably want to speak to him directly if you want the details and are thinking about ever doing that.
