wtf - now its knocking, what next?

so I go to get my car tuned by Al today and when we get started my car runs like sh*t up top. So I change the plugs and it fixes the problem. We go ahead w/ the rest of the tune and the car seems to be pulling pretty hard and running great but its showing some crazy knock through most of the powerband, great!(sarcasm)
Al tried to fix the problem through the tune w/ fuel and timing but that wasnt the problem, it was obvious my car is f*cked up and Im fed up w/ this sh*t and want to drive the car into a wall at 100mph
So now I get to tear apart my sh*t AGAIN and try to find out the problem, Al seems to think it has to do w/ the cams so thats where Ill start.

Well thats all Ive got for now, Al did a great job and I just wanted to take the time to thank him again, sorry for the rant and semi long post.

ebay O2 housing
DC Sports 3" dp w/ cat delete
Invidia 3" cat back exhaust

I keep throwing a PO340 and PO335 code because of the cams, Ive checked the CAS position 2 times and I know its correct so Im going to change out the sensor itself.
Ive also checked the timing multiple times, plus Al checked it himself, so I also know the timing is OK

I wish i could help. Did you do the install? The only other thing that i have heard of is putting in the oil pump sensor 180 degrees out of position, or something like that.

yep I did the install cam/cam gears install w/ a buddy. We double and triple checked everything so Im at my wits end trying to figure this d@mn thing out.

Al was a big help and gave me a list of things to check so Ill be going down the list as soon as I can, but what really sucks is I will be gone out of country for 6 weeks (in the Army) and wont have any time to tear into it before I leave

Ive checked the CAS twice now but will try replacing the actual sending unit itself to try and fix the problem of the codes being thrown, the car idles fine but stumbles pretty bad down low from 1K-2K when driving slow, but pulls hard up to redline from a stop if you stomp on it.
but for some reason shows some crazy knock almost 2V in some areas according to Al's equipment

Why get rid of the gears? just curious

Try turning the CAS flag (the thing that bolts to the end of the cam) 180 degrees. You could be 180 off and the car will not run well. I talked with Comp cams about the 280 cams and they siad they were not to be used with the stock valvetrain. They suggest the upgrade spring kit with them. At least that is what the tech at comp's help line told me.

I have a set of springs and lifters on order but they didnt come in on time so I just wanted to get the cams custom tuned since Al was going to be so close to me

Hopefully I can get the new springs and lifters in once I get back into country

I dont know if this is relavent but thought it should surface here. A freind of mine put a comp cam in his vette and it tore up his head. Sent it back for a new one, fixed everything, installed 2nd cam - same thing happened second time, sent it back, told comp to get lost and put crowler in and problem solved. - doubt same thing happened but just in case.

Hopefully you can Use your Army tour as an opportunity to get your thoughts together to overcome this problem and make out better, not worse. Good luck

Don't know anything about the Comp cams specs, but if they have too much lift, perhaps you're bottoming out your valve springs? I'm sure the noise they'll make when the spring collapses will be loud enough for the ECU to think it's knocking.

here's the specs I have in front of me that came w/ the cams:

intake cam part # - 119-301-8I
valve adjustment hyd
gross valve lift: .434
cam lobe lift: .255
adv. dur. @ .004 valve lift: 264
valve timing @ .050. 6 BDT 32 ABD
these specs are for cam installed @ 104.0 center line
duration @ .050: 218

exhaust cam part # - 119-302-8E
valve adjustment hyd
gross valve lift: .411
cam lobe lift: .239
adv. dur @ .004 valve lift: 265
valve timing @ .050. 39 BBD 1- ATD
these specs are for cam installed @112.0 center line
duration @ .050: 218

this is all word for word and letter for letter from the spec sheets
Comp also highly recommends to install springs as well
so hopefully once I install the springs and double check a few other things the knock will go away
I guess we'll see once I tear into it once I get back

it was nice meeting you to, thanks for the compliment on the car

wish I could have stuck around a little longer to shoot the poop and maybe get a ride in yours once the tune was done but I wanted to get home asap to start diagnosing my knock problem

so how do you like your setup now that you can actually drive it w/ out worrying about blowing it up
