Bump, where's all the guys who wanted this to happen? Gaulrich just dropped out, and Vone paid but then cancelled, so we need to get moving on this...

Warrtalon, I live in Atl and thinking about getting the flash done. At the moment I only have a K&N Typhoon intake and DC Sports cat-back. I plan on doing more late this year, but wondering if it would be worthwhile to get the flash done now. How much HP could I expect with this limited combination and a flash? Thanks

Gains with the flash are pretty much the same regardless of mods. You can expect no less than 20whp peak, but probably a good bit more than that in peak torque and a lot of area under the curve. It would benefit you to get tuned, but you should probably do a base flash for now, then get a custom tune later after adding all your mods.

Btw, I would highly suggest removing the Typhoon for now, because it is only hurting your Evo. It is not good with or without a tune, but with a tune, it at least can run decently. You would be better off re-installing your stock intake, selling the Typhoon, and getting an MBC + fuel pump just in time for your Dynoflash in May. That's my opinion...

Just curious why the Typhoon would hurt the Evo performance and even after a flash it would hurt the performance.

I was also planning to get a down pipe, free flow cat, MBC, fuel pump, and cams. Would the Typhoon intake help at that point along with a custom flash?

I'm going to put the stock intake back on and hold off on the flash. I'll have to sell the K&N on ebay. Still would like to know what the issue is with the Typhoon intake. Thanks

Just do a little search. People all over this forum have complained about that thing for the last few years. It's mainly the hard MAF pipe that causes the most problems. The cone filter is ok. Al himself made an entire thread talking specifically about this particular intake and how awful it is.

Search around and you'll see. No, with those other mods, it won't be helpful then either. It's never helpful and certainly not needed. Why are you going to hold off on the flash?

The only other performance mod I have at the moment is the cat-back. Late this year I plan to do the fuel pump, DP, and free flow cat. Then I would have to get it flashed again.

For the mods I just mentioned, would it be preferable to get a flash or something like the UTEC? I don't plan on racing or running race fuel, just 93 octane. The only other mods I would potentially do is cams and injectors.

That's fine. You can do a base flash for $175 now, and thoroughly enjoy the increased power all through the powerband in every gear until later this year when you could get a custom road or dyno tune for a reduced $300. Altogether, you end up spending $475. If you don't get one now, then pay full price later, it will be $400 for the custom tune, so you save $75, but you went 5-6 months without all the extra power you'd get from the base flash. The question is...is $75 worth an extra 20-30whp/wtq for the next 5-6 months before you add the other mods?

You would have no use for the UTEC. It would cost a lot more, would require extra devices for you to tune it yourself (logger and wideband o2), or you'd have to pay someone to tune it for you in addition to the cost of the unit itself. A flash is perfect for your non-racing, daily driving, 93-octane only plans. You won't need injectors.
