why would his boost taper from 24 to 19? Shows a mbc in the mod list. Good numbers though!

Yeah, that is a pretty large taper...Is it the MIVEC working against holding boost?

Generally, the MIVEC causes more of a boost taper than on VIIIs, but IXs still make far more power at the same (and even less) boost levels than VIIIs - it sux.

Correct

This is why I suggest the AVCR on the IX's as you can set the boost vs rpm to counter act the MIVEC on high rpms

how much power do you think would be gained with a properly tuned AVCR vs MBC on an IX?

Al

Is there the ability to run more timing on a IX's than on a VIII's with the same mods and gas ?

most likely yes due to the larger cooling jackets in the motor and it can allow for more aggresive tune

I was just curious. But I guess maybe I'm not able to get a good reading on the spike with the stock gauge but my IX seems to spike to 1.5 and then holds firm at 1.4 to redline. The spike never seems to be more than about .1 or .2 Kg/cm than what it holds at. With a mbc how does mivec have anything to do with the boost level - seems like thats a closed loop with a properly installed mbc - right?

It has to do with cylinder pressure, not the ECU controlling boost.

People love to tell me what their boost gauge says, but I only care about what a MAP sensor says while looking at a log on a laptop afterwards. People are always claiming this and that boost holding to redline, but when Al hooks up his MAP sensor and does a 3rd gear pull, it's always the same - constant taper from peak all the way to redline. The boost line is _never_ flat (on stock turbo).

Yes - but interestingly - we use less timing and make more power !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The MIVEC bumps cylinder pressure significantly so we can get away with a degree less timing through the mid range which gives you a much greater margin of saftey

The IX's are really just street driving super cars
