I'm a fuggin' noob when it comes to aftermarket modding, so I hope someone can help. I recently bought a stock Evolution IX MR and would like to know what Al can do for me (seeing that I don't have an aftermarket exhaust, turbo, etc.). I suppose what I am asking is whether this would be worth it for me since I don't have any other upgrades?
I would like to eventually get into modding my Evo but I have had very little time to even research since buying the vehicle, and probably won't do anything too drastic for another year.
I appreciate any advice as I would like to support Al coming to the Seattle area (it doesn't seem like we get as much love as some places around the country). Thank you.
-Daniel
BTW - I forgot to mention that I won't be getting into track racing until I can devote more time to mods, so that is also a year out.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Evos, Daniel. You may not have had much time to even research buying your car, but let me tell you...you made an EXCELLENT DECISION. The IX MR is the finest of all Evos, and you got the last one of its kind to be available, since they stop making them this year. To answer a few questions and add a few comments, here's my list:
1) You absolutely do NOT need to do ANY MODS before getting into tracking your car. Many, many people do it when they're stock, and that's a great idea, because if you have no experience, then there's no reason to have mods. All that does is make your car faster and less balanced when you have no idea how to handle it even with stock power. The best thing to do is to get into autocrossing or a track event with a sanctioned club like SCCA or NASA where they cater to newbies. We've all been there and done that, so don't feel bad that you're in the noob category. You get an assigned instructor and lots of assistance to ensure you learn how to properly drive and how not to wreck your new Evo. Mods can come later...
2) Yes, you 100% can see great gains from a Dynoflash with no mods whatsoever. The greatest thing is you will gain 30whp or so, the car will be SMOOTHER than it is now, no one will know you have a mod, your car will sound stock, it will look stock, and it will rip ***.
3) If you'd like to do a few basics before the tune, though, then consider getting the package in my sig. IT's basic, simple, inexpensive, and VERY powerful. It's just an exhaust, boost controller, boost gauge, and comes with a flash...

I appreciate the reply, Warrtalon! Thanks for the advice. I have been reading these forums for a while and the Warrtalon Buschur package in your sig has tempted me from the get go (I see your posts frequently); it is relatively inexpensive and seems like a great starting point. Unfortunately I won't have enough time to handle the install prior to Al coming up to Seattle (work is killing me right now).
A couple other FNG questions I have are:
- Will Al have a Dyno available while he is in Seattle? I am thinking this is strictly a road tune but I don't know how that works other than driving the car while monitoring/making adjustments.
- Would I typically want to get a Dyno tune afterwards? (I assume the answer is no)
Thanks again!
Daniel

I have prob dyno tuned over 1,000 evos and I have very refined base maps wehich are the prodcut of countless hours of R & D
I presonally prefer fine adjustments on a real operating load than on a dyno which may or may not be an accurate replication of real world operation
hi i'm a newbie here

if they are meeting up in seattle my best guess would be that they are going to meet at world one performance. the last time al came to seattle thats where everyone met up and it turned into a pretty good day with about 20 evos coming in.

The first post has said that this trip is confirmed for weeks now. Was there some reason for questioning this that I missed? I don't know of any money problems - Al has had this trip booked for a while. Only LA was in jeopardy...
Location will be same as last time, wherever that was. He always stays at a Hampton Inn and usually tunes from there, but he hasn't told me the details yet.
