I didn't say anything about racing. His family lives here, and he lives here. He doesn't just visit. He's in TX for school, so he spends significant time at both places. You don't have to race to want an optimum tune.

Why in the world would you tell someone they don't need a retune on a change of octane? That's very VERY dangerous to say. Al tunes completely different for 91oct and 93oct, and that's not even taking altitude into consideration. Please just stop saying that he doesn't need a different for 91oct...it's not helping ANYTHING. That's like telling all guys on 91oct that they make just as much power as guys on 93oct...uh, no they don't. Why? Because they can't be as aggressive with tuning and boost...

He will definitely need a different tune on 91 at 6000' than on 93 at sea level. It's foolish to think otherwise. I moved from VA to CO, but yet I dyno'd, logged AFRs, and logged timing just before leaving and just after arriving. I REQUIRED a retune to be at optimum tuning levels for the new conditions.

It is never smart to tell someone NOT to do something that is obviously needed just because you haven't had any "issues." There's more to tuning than whether the engine blows or not.
Here's some late-nite gee-wez knowledge : as found on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_number
"...the engine maximum power is reduced by about 4% with a fuel switch from 93 to 91 octane (11 hp, from 291 to 280 hp). If the engine is being run below maximum load then the difference in octane will have even less effect. For each 1000 feet of altitude the atmospheric pressure will drop by a little less than 1 inHg (11 kPa/km). An engine that might require 93 octane at sea level may perform at maximum on a fuel rated at 91 octane if the elevation is over, say, 1000 feet."

Gee-wiz, doesn't matter. That's way too vague and general. Why are you fighting this when it's common, basic knowledge?

Your car doesn't require as high of an octane at 6k ft as it does at sea-level. And if it's so dangerious then why don't you have to go to the dealer to have a reflash every time you move to a state with a higher or lower elevation when the car is stock?

Look, The stock ECU has abdative technology in it along with knock control, closed and open loop operation that uses O2 sensors and MAP Sensors not to mention the numerious other things to keep the tune at right AF ratios. I would totally agree with you if he drove a carberated car that required jets and secondaries to be changed but we own smart cars. Call AL and ask him. He told me that i didn't have to have a new flash when i moved. I was just relaying what i was told.

If you are looking for maximum performance in both areas then go for it and get the custom roms for both locations. You definatly won't be disipointed in AL's work. It's not a big deal to swap the roms when needed either.

I first posted because i thought you were just visiting. Apparently I don't know the situation clearly. Sorry to have waisted your time.

But i stand stronge on the fact you don't NEED to have a reflash because of elev. change. AL, If I am wronge I am sorry I miss understood you and Sorry to upset Warrtalon for no reason. My intent is not to be here to cause fights.
