Great job on the flash Al!
Great job on the flash Al!
Got my car all put together and it runs like a champ I def noticed a lot of gain from it w/ the supporting mods that I put on while waiting for my ECU to return to me! Thanks again Al!
Hey, John, I didn't realize you had sent out the ECU. Let me know your impressions on AIM. Good job getting things done and not waiting around. You've been needing that tune...
Btw, looks like I definitely need your Evo for this weekend's auto-x, hah.

this might be a bit ot from this but i guess since warr and john are from colorado i will ask. if i get a tune in texas for 93 octane what do i do when i come home for christmas and summer where all we have in co is 91 octane? is there a way i can switch between 2 programs or is there something else i can do?
Are you the one I've talked to about this extensively, or was it someone else? I know I have someone up here in CO I've been helping who goes from CO to TX and back needing both a 91oct+6000' tune and a 93oct+sealevel tune.
My suggestion is to use EcuFlash and get at the VERY LEAST e-flashes for both conditions, but if you can, get custom tunes for each location. Either way, you'll have a separate ROM file for each location that you can load whenever you move between areas.

If Al comes to Texas and I get his custom tune plus the Tactric cable from him, download the EcuFlash software, then he will give me my factory stock tune or "rom" (along with the custom tune) so I can flash my Evo IX's ECU between the stock and the custom tune (using my laptop and the Tactix cable) at my discretion?
Please let me know if I understand this correctly? Thanks.
Save your money!! You will NOT have a problem driving from Sea-Level to 6000+ feet Alt!! IF you are running an AEM EMS then you will need to adjust for the Elevation. The stock ECU adjusts for a save tune. Beside if you already have a custom tune AL leaves a nice safety margin there so you won;t have to worry about it.
PS> I had mine tuned in florida then moved to utah and drove all through the mountians at 8000+alt. and have not had one issue for the whole three years i lived there!!

Not having issues doesn't mean anything.
He will definitely need a different tune on 91 at 6000' than on 93 at sea level. It's foolish to think otherwise. I moved from VA to CO, but yet I dyno'd, logged AFRs, and logged timing just before leaving and just after arriving. I REQUIRED a retune to be at optimum tuning levels for the new conditions.
It is never smart to tell someone NOT to do something that is obviously needed just because you haven't had any "issues." There's more to tuning than whether the engine blows or not.

I must have mis-understood the question. He didn't say anything about optimum tuning for racing. I understood it as he was just going back to visit family!!
If the intent to race is there one should realize that for every 3,500ft of altitude change the car needs to be retuned for "Optimum Performance". If you're just going to drive the car as a daily driver without hard racing then you don't need the retune.
