depends on what stage of modification and beefing up your pump received when they originally shipped it out... a lot of people, myself included, got early version as i jumped on the methanol bandwagon almost as soon as i found out about it... smc is a great company and they'll do whatever it takes... usually you just ship the whole unit back, res and all... i removed my pump to just ship it and then wire it backup myself.. he said not to bother and shipped me a new pump no questions asked... didn't even have to wait to send my old one back.. great company

I was about to put one of these kits on my IX.... Should I be concerned about it failing and causing bad things while in boost?

Rich,

Sorry to sound silly but I must ask you something:

1) Have you verified the grounding points?
2) Have you check the fuse?
3) Have you tested the test button?

Carlos

Bill,

The kit I am selling you is the same as the one I have, I just ordered it for my Stealth R/T TT about 2 months ago but never used it. I had mine installed on my Evo 8 for a year and no issues.

I recommend the Number #7 nozzle to start with.

Just a warning for Methanol users:
I too had problem with my pumps (seized up 2 of them) only later found that the particular brand (Rockett Fuel) I got locally had some sort of additive in it. This additive slowly cause the seal in the pump to swell up and kill the unit.
The only brand that I use now is VP Racing (M1 Methanol). It is supposed to be PURE Methanol. I have no more problem since putting my system on this strict diet.

If you have the pressure gauge inline, a simple test every once in a while is a good idea to keep an eye on your pump. It should have about 110-120 PSI at the nozzle while spraying. If you see the pressure getting less and less over time, it's a sign that the seal in your pump is slowly on its way out. Get that fixed ASAP.

Has anybody here tried rebuilding/replacing the smc pump seals as regular maintenance??

I've been running alky (100% meth) for over a year now and been thinking about replacing the seals if there is a 'seal kit'.

I don't want to be the one to get the blame for so do this at your own risk but first generation SMC owners use KLOTZ internal lubricating oil to safeguard the rubber and seal on the first gen pumps.

It is said to use a tablespoon or two per gallon of methanol in the tank in order to keep the seals fresh.

Again, this is just aplicable to the first gen pumps however I haven't seen any secondary efects from using this Klotz oil on modern SMC pump kit, in fact I guess it would help instead of hurt.

my .2c

the first generation smc pump were fuel pumps, thats why the klotz uplon was added and they could only run methanol and not a h2o/meoh mix.

the present ones are diaphgram pumps...............
