Question Cobb AccessPORT v2 (Evo)

Al,

Any EVOs come in w/APs yet? If so, what's your take on this product?

You got a PM subject as well.

We are missing one very important part of the system which is the Pro Tuner software application and the street tuner application. These softwares give Pro tuners like myself the ability to set up custom mapping for your car and use all the advanced features of the AP.

I( have not seen the new applications but from what I am being told it appears that Cobb will offer many functions and tuabable parameters not currently available through open source tools.

I will update more when I hav e the software which should be in 4 -6 weeks or so.

Until they release that software the units themselves can only be loaded with Cob supplied base maps.

Street tuner is a tuning application for end users to work on thier own car as needed.

Dyno Flash is a supporting Cobb dealer and can supply access ports or any other Cobb produts for anyone who needs them.

Access Port by Cobb

I have had my AP for about 3 weeks now. At first, I didn't feel the power gains that I was told that I would receive, so I called Cobb tuning and asked what is going on. They told me to replace my vaccum hose with one that they would send me and that it would correct my problem. I do feel the power gains that I was suppose to get now. Another thing about the AP is the other features such as real time, performance data that they say it offers, doesn't work on mine. It says that it can not communicate with the ECU. I called them about this problem as well and they told me that they would try to find a fix by uploading new software on their website. So far, no new software has been provided. Also, the stock setting is not downloadable from their website right now, and it doesn't come on the AP. They know about these issues, and hopefully they can get them fixed. Another problem that I see with this access port is that when uninstalled it causes problems with your car starting. I am not sure why, but I have had problems until reloading the stage 2 map. One of my buddies also got the AP and he had the same problems. It is a new product and has some bugs that need to be worked out. As far as power though. I have it now that I changed out my vaccum hose. They say that you can remove the restricter pill and it will help from the stock vaccum hose too, but it is better to replace it with the new vaccum hose. I just got a dyno done with the AP installed on the stage 2 setting which means I have a turbo back exhaust, and I am on 92 octane gas with a K&N typhoon and it pulled 270 whp and 270 wtq. Just thought I would give everyone my experience so far with the AP by cobb.

Be patient with your Cobb situation - Cobb is an amazing product

The problem in your case is the K & N Typhoon which has a flap in the tube that goes from the MAF to the turbo which sticks down near the BOV return

This flap has the effect of distorting the air flow and makes the car run excessively RICH

I do have regular Dyno Flash maps for the Typhoon which can correct the rich condition

Another option is to go back to your stock intake - or modify the K & N Typhoon to eliminate the flap

I am just waiting for my pro tuner software to arrive and then I will be able to offer all the proven and tested Dyno Flash maps for the Cobb AP for Evos

In the meantime work with the tech guys at Cobb - they offer really great customer support !

Cobb is #1 in my book - I use it on my STI and it is really the best way to tune a stock ecu on the Subaru

Al

I am surprised to hear some of items like Live Data isn't working on your AP...I too have the AP and have found the Live Data to be useful while driving....mainly I leave it on the KNOCK SUM parameter and monitor that.

I am running stage 2 w/COBB TBE (test pipe) on my IX...only other changes are Nisei ICpiping and Okada Coils....on a Mustang Dyno the car hit a peak 288tq and 285hp....stock the car baselined at 242 each.....I think that is really respectable from a base map ....this is also on the 91oct map.....and most impressive in my mind is that across the power band up to redline I usually never hit more than one engine knock.

I haven't yet tried to reverse back to the stock settings so I don't know if after doing that it would cause the car not to start...that is interesting

If you want to get one I will trasnfer yur current mapping to the AP at no charge and also fine tune your car as needed at no charge - same offer for anyone I have custom tuned who buys the AP from me

Al

PS - I have had my order in for the pro tuner software for over a year - all i can say is that on my own personal STI with AP2 it is simply the best tuning tool in the world

I made 576 tq and 545 whp this weekend on the dyno and the STI runs like a champ on teh stock ecu and motor

I am expecting great things with the Evo AP

Al

What realtime functions are not working for you? The gauge function of the AP has always worked. The only issue is that we are not able to display a boost value since the car does not have any MAP sensor, but all other gauge functions should work fine. You are welcome to e-mail me your concerns so we can make sure you understand what the device is capable of doing.

Take care,
Christian.
