check engine light

hi al,

My check engine light is on and all i can think of is that i have been driving the car in the snow and real wet and icy weather. A few times the bottom of the car scraped against the snow when i was pulling into my driveway since the car is lowered. The light is on constantly for like 3 days now. I also heard some popping noises coming from the back when i hit the gas after 4th or 5th gear. But the car is driving just fine. Any idea what the problem could be?

Thanks. Omid.
happy holidays.

That's funny; I have the exact same story. driving in snow, gettin' a li'l...........then my "service engine soon" light comes on. If this happens take it to a Mitsu' dealership, or a tune shop that you trust. It might be a glitch, or a serious problem. You don't wanna drive around an' just see what happens. I'm taking mine in today. I'll re-post when I sort out the problem. But my advice is have someone QUALIFIED take a look at it. ........."Code reader" ? can you elaborate?

Were all guessing here until you get the code scanned. If it did happen when you scraped the bottom you might have damaged you secondary O2 sensor depending on what exahust you have and how you have the sensor mounted.

A code reader is a scanner that plugs into the diagnostic port of the car and connects to the ECU to determine what fault is causing the check engine light to go off.

Hi! I got same problem, my engine light is on but sometimes it goes off, when i connet to evoscan2.0 it says that o2 sensor voltage is low or knock sensor faulty,.
but it says that is reading only evo 4 fault codes, do u know if it is any software on the market which reads evo 8 fault codes? thank you

So, I never gotta chance to take my car in.....But, I was driving up a hill, in 5th gear, kinda bogged it so I had to double clutch. It seemed to have turned the light off. (?) WTF!? Did I somehow "fix" the problem? I dunno Blushark, try boggin' your car in 5th, double clutch it and see what happens. Pfffft, I doubt it REALLY helped though.

Ok i finally had my friend use the code scanner and it read O2 sensor and high voltage! He cleared the code for now and it has been one day and no more check engine light. could it be the cold weather since i drove it in the snow and real wet roads?? i dont know but if the light comes back i will try replacing the secondary O2 sensor. That is it for now.

thanks for all your comments.

I had the o2 sensor code a while back and cleared it. It never came back either. I had it again 6 months later , cleared it and it came back the next day. That was when I had to change my front sensor and that solved the issue. If the code stays off you're fine.
