The NHRA rules are pretty clear about how far it has to be (I think its 6-12 inches but I don't have my rulebook to look it up to be certain) however the seat can be adjusted so that will effect the location too.. My 8 point rollbar (Basically has additional kicks on the hoop that adds rigidity if the car were to roll to prevent it from collapsing sideways) is supposedly good for 10.99 or slower.. I think anything faster requires a cage.. But again, It may have changed since then.

 

There are many reasons the bar does not touch the roof. One is on a street/track cage is keeping the stock appearance to the car and the headliner would have to be removed in order to weld the back bars any higher.

Most important that everyone overlooked is that you still have to put the roll cage padding on.

 

Good point zach ! BTW i just got the padding today and you re so right with th bar any higher it would have been virtually impossible to add the required padding to the top bar

The main point for me is that #1 it dont block the rear view - its totatly above the plane of the rear window and #2 - if the techs at the track no longer bust my *****

Not getting my ***** buste at the track is my #1 goal - being able to go out a take a few slow runs - tune and work up to a fast run is going to help a lot. Without the bar I was only able to make one or two laps before having to go home
