Any thoughts on a quality aftermarket BOV providing any enhancement to stock or especially a dynoflashed car ? I'm really only interested in running 20PSI or so max, however I have heard that aftermarket BOV's can provide not only additional boost holding but quicker spool-up times etc.
Since I am going to get flashed Fri, I'm wondering if I should slap this puppy on before dyno / flashing.

My $.02...the popular opinion is that you don't need an aftermarket BOV; the stock one seems to be holding under any condition. *With that said, I'll sell the Forge Motorports VTA BOV to you for CHEAP!*
Yea. You only want to replace your stock BOV if you suspect it's leaking. It will be one reason if you
can't hold boost.
That said, many like the Greddy Type S. For 20psi you will want to take out the small spring.
It has a good sound if you have put on an intake.
I don't think you will hear much difference if you have the stock airbox.
This is the one I will probably get if/when my stock one goes. But I wouldn't buy one
just to have it.

hmmm... interesting ... I've always heard people talk about quicker spool up times etc, perhaps the placebo effect.

I feel that the stock BOV seems to be holding boost in most situations. It's really hard to tell if it is bleeding off boost because of the way that the ECU tapers the boost off as RPM's increase. With a boost controller i suppose you could tell if it is leaking. I say run the stock bov until you suspect it is leeking. If you get an aftermarket I would suggest the Forge or the Greddy. I have used both and they booth work fine.

I don't believe that an aftermarket BOV will increase spool up times. I think for a street car the only effect a BOV will have is the sound that they emit. Unless you are having a high boost situation it really isn't necessary. Check out buschurracing.com. They use a stock bov from a first generation DSM because it works. It is a metal piece and holds boost without leaking. For some reason, mitsu switch to a plastic piece beginning with the 95 Eclipse and has kept using it. I think the EVO BOVs are a different design than the 2nd gen dsm BOV's because they leaked like crazy. Anyway just my opinion.

1g BOV Test done by Dejon tools. Of course, I haven't seen the Evo's BOV. IMO, there is no reason to change to an aftermarket one, unless changing the tone of it.

From what I have seen, aftermarket bov's usually come at a price of reduced quality of driveability - the stock one really works the best with the stock MAF sesnor
That said - we have seen at least 5 guys who has a leaking bov ! My suggestion is use the stock bov until is starts leaking - if it isn't leaking you can run it
I have the forge recirc on mine and love it
However - I did just pick up the Turbo Smart combo valve and I think that is a real interesting looking unit - I will be testing it very soon
