Yeah, a guy out here has Vishnu Sti that runs in the 13s. But this guy really babies his car off the line and makes me look like a speedshifter. Having to go thru 5 gears by the end of the 1/4 hurts their e/ts. I believe another Stage one Sti in the Pleasonton/Bay area is in the 12s. Car seemed fast when he took me for a spin. At Carlsbad yesterday not one sti ran that I saw. A couple were there but not running. I guess they are waiting for the UTEC. I wish them luck and if I had an sti I would be a little agitated about the lack of apparent potential to this point. Maybe that will change in the near future. Bigger turbo is a must for really good #s.

I'd find it hard to believe you did damage to the headgasket without the car overheating!! Your coolant should have been boiling out. I seriously think you got a turbo issue but you could have done some serious damage so check EVERYTHING!! Good luck man

I'm sorry to say that it sounds like a headgasket simply by the fact that your running slower and slower the more you run it. A turbo oil seal will, for the most part, just lay down a lot of smoke and not really hurt performance any.

It's possible to blow a headgasket from excessively high cylinder pressures which an be caused by over-advance and/or high boost.

One quick question it doesnt state in the story, why you were boosting 27 psi?

it did state that he had a faulty gauge that showed 21psi while he was actually boosted 28psi.

Well i know the gauge didnt cause 27psi .Just wondering what was causing him to run 27psi. Because he states (now i have full turboback no cat, intake, Dynoflash,Buschur FMIC, MBC set to 23 PSI) What was he using before that was making him boost to 27psi?

So if you tune the car with a lot of timing to get a big TQ hit that could cause a car to run hot or blow a head gasket?

between switching the HKS EVC V and buschur MBC..somehwere allong the lines it was at 28psi?!?! i have no lcue how or why, almost like it just appreared one day...and when i dropped it back down to 22-23 psi i ran better times that when it was higher up, very strange, my car has confused me since the day i got it, to update everyone though..........i just finished talking to AL and im buying his rebuilt head for his evo hes going to sell to me, then finishing up the Buschur stage 4 parts i need within the next few weeks, so hopefully ill go from a bad to great situaiton, i might find that infamous 11.99 with the set-up....the head is "fully" rebuilt and Pruven will be doing all the work, then have Al do his finnal touched with a new custom dynoflash...will post up resluts soon..........

Glad to see you are getting it back up and running! I think a good head can add about 40WHP but I am not 100% sure on that.

Head gaskets can be compromised by a few things. The most common cause of failure is detonation which results in huge cylinder pressure peaks. Doesn't take much det to punch a knick in the headgasket material. Once compromised, it's a matter of time before it fully lets go (loss of compression, loss of combustion, etc,.) Overheating can also induce a headgasket failure, of course. As can improper torqing of the headstuds or the use of a gasket of inappriate material.

Conventional engine torque rarely causes damage since the peak cylinder pressures involved are far lower than what is induced by even minor detonation.

Just my 2c,
shiv
