Best cams for a smooth idle and Horsepower with Dynoflash?

Al,

I noticed you went with JUN 264/264 cams. I currently have a turboback exhuast, MBC, KN drop in and mail flash. My plans is to get 264 cams either HKS or JUN with a fuel pump. Many of cams I have heard idle like s%%T tunnned with only AFAC.

Best cams for a smooth idle and Horsepower with Dynoflash?

Why did you use JUN and not HKS and is ther difference between HKS 264 vs JUN 264?

Can you get a smooth IDLE with 264 cams with mail in flash or is custom tune suggested?

How much is average WHP and torque gains with 264 cams?

How about the balance between the 2: idle and power. I want something that will work with the stock turbo and will be usefull when I upgrade to a bigger turbo/ic set up. By the way, how much will it cost the current dynoflash customer to get his ecu retune with cams added? I'm thinking about the same thing.

What will it takes for the stock engine to be able to rev safely to 8K? Camshafts and what? What will dynoflash recommend? Thx

i recomend the hks 264 / 264 unless its a full reace only car

Upgrade price depends on if you are a through the mail or custom tune customer

I dno not recomend 8k unless you upgrade the rods - we use 7800 rpms which has proven to be very reliable

THis is somethine I have been questioning also...what if you upgrade the turbo? Will the 264's be to mild? Just wondering because I know you can tune the 272's at almost stock idle that's all.

I've seen many dsm's run 11's and 10's with hks 264 and a bigger turbo. Hks 264 cams for the Evo has a higher lift than 1st and 2nd gen's so more power can be achieved with a sleeper like idle. just look at Buschurs dyno graph. there is still power being made after 8000 rpms with 264's. ( minimal drop off )
264's + Dynoflash = power all through out the rev range and awesome torque pull. idles like stock
272's + Dynoflash = massive power up top. pulls like a train above 5000 rpms. lopey idle, occasional stalls (for some). could benefit with cam gear tuning.
staggered ( 264in/272ex ) = best of both worlds. Idles lumpy ( not as bad as 272's )

I personaly suggest the custom flash for the cams to fine tune your bad as Evo.
Then again somebody ran 118mph trap speed at the end of the quarter with a mail-in flash. either way you can't go wrong with Big Al and hks products.

Al why the JUN over HKS..... what were the perks... please more detail.... And i know a few people with the 272's that you flashed and they sound almost stock.... What are the down falls with going with 272 over 264 and 264i/272E all with tuned dyno flash....
thanks

Jun 264s have a higher lift than the HKS if I remember right. About the same as the HKS 272s and thus can yield more power

Hks 272's and 264's have the same lift 10.8 int/ 10.2 ex but diff. duration. hence the # of each cam
Jun's I think are 11.2 or 11.7 ( not sure )

there's some confusion about JUN 264. The lift is 10.5mm intake/exhaust, they're better than HKS 264 because they have very quick ramp rates, (they open fast and shut fast while staying open for little longer) so they require springs (i think they make more power than HKS 272)
