That was one experiment on one car. Who knows what the tune was like before and after. There have been changes in tuning methods and changes in tuning skills since those times. I can personally say that the HKS RS intake was not an improvement over the stock intake in my car. From my experience and that of others, I'd say that the stock intake is quite good enough for up to 400+ whp.

so lets hear about how much power you get out of the APS intake, since it is one of the only true cold air ones sold out there, and what tube should be combined with it, what has been your experiance with that one al?

Good article in turbo mag about intakes on turbo cars even with maf, how the colder air does compress into colder air, not sure when it was, within the last 6 months if someone wanted to search for it

Yes we did. He dynoed a HKS intake and got 11 more HP over the stock intake. The thing is that when you dyno a car, the hood is open and the aftermarket intake get cold air that it normaly wouldn't get when on the road (with the hood closed), therfore making power that it wouldn't on the road. Now, when the stock intake is dynoed, it's gonna perform worse then when on the road because there is no way to make air go into the stock air duct as fast as it would on the road. In conclusion, I believe if you road dynoed both intakes, the stock box would dyno the same or more then a aftermarket intake.

Timeslips would be good. There are a couple of road dynoes avalible (g-tech, Innovate, etc.), I believe Al's datalogging equipment (Innovate) has a road dyno.

My 2 cents on intakes.
I have the Vishnu tune and he does recommend the stock filter for the points that Al
has mentioned. And I honestly think his point is that it can make power, but for the
extra money you spend on the extra few hp, he doesn't think its worth it.

Now with that being said, I opted to get a ARC super induction box, and I'm pretty happy with it. You can't enter car shows with a stock intake btw. lol. I have nothing but raves for the ARC.
- It sounds unbelieveable great, and the stock BOV is so much louder. No need for an aftermarket BOV.
- My boost doesn't taper as much as it does in the high end (I've gained 3-4psi in the high end), and the car feels much faster, and doesn't feel like its choaking off.

When you look at the stock intake and the small hole it sucks air into, its not hard
to imagine the extra power, and the extra throttle response of an intake.
especially at night.

Keep in mind this is coming from a car tuned with a reflash. Yes, the reflash was before my new intake, but I'm sure its faster. I'm also pretty confident that when I get my car reflashed again, it will make much more power.

If you have the money, or just want the looks, I recommend a good intake over the factory one. I'm sure Al, (since this is his forum) and other good tuners can take advantage of it. I'm not sure of all the other intakes, I can only speak of the one I have.

I'm curious too on how the APS compares to the HKS or Bushur.

Now that the Dynoflash product has also evolved since the start of this thread, is it still the same with the HKS RS, that there is still significant gains with tuning it?

On the subject of the ARC intake... Al you have mentioned in previous posts that you aprove of this intake. I actually was planning on going w/ the HKS RS, but after seeing the problems it has w/ filtration I am very hesitant to put this intake on my car.

How does the ARC rate in your book? I understand it is pricey, which is fine if it is quality-both in performance and filtration. I have seen results from those w/ a custom tune from you w/ this intake and they are impressive.

Will there be good results w/ a mail in flash w/ the ARC intake on a 2006 Evo IX?

Al: What would you say about the APS CAI compared to the RS intake? Im debating on which one of these would be safe with the most power...

I am not sure if you can actually use a APS cai on a 06. Last time I check you couldn't on the 05 Evo 8 due to the configuration of the power steering reservoir but maybe I am wrong.

Note: Fitment of the APS High Flow Cold Air Intake System requires the APS Intercooler Water Spray Reservoir.

I wonder why would you want to change the stock intake for either of those? The stock intake has a pretty decent CAI already.. The HKS RS has caused issues in the past. I wonder if this APS CAI would run without issues in the EVO.... AFAK, the stock intake is absolutely tops for applications up to 400+ whp...

not the power steering reservoir, its the acd reservoir that is in the way on the 05 and up models.
