We got robbed - just drove a '04 RS - WOW !

I just got back from installing the Dyno Flash into a '04 RS Evo

All I can tell you is I feel like I was robbed

For the past year i have been in a love affair with my Evo - thinking the Evo was the best car ever made

Now I know that we only had a taste of the pie

The limited slip diff makes huge improvements to the handling

The stopping is 100% times better - the feel of the pedal is night and day improvement

I love the crank windows and the extra room it gives me on my left leg

The way the car turns in and handles is so much better with the weight reduction - its a very significant improvement

Man - IF i could afford it i would take all my hop up parts off my evo and grab a RS while I can - too bad I am so far in the dog house with my wife IF I dare get another car she will be super pissed off big time

All i can tell you is that RS is the word

AND - I think they do something with the motor becuase it takes to the tune super super well

Whatever you "felt" in the motor is in your head, its the same as a regular Evo, period. I am interested to test drive one now to see the braking feel as well, as I have not heard anything about that from any testing sources.

Something else, how do the crank windows allow you more left leg room????

i think they might have diferent panels because there is no motor and stuff in the door so they can make the door itself thinner

No - what I felt in the motor was actually recorded in my data logger !

The RS which I dorve tonight was in the top 1% of stock evos I have ever driven in smoothness of the engine and quiet mechanical operation

I intend to drive some more - this one could just be a fluke

I'll let you know if i see a trend with other RS evos

There is a possibility that they may install "selected" engine parts with tighter tolerances than with the regular ones

We have seen many stock heads with casting flaws and weld repairs in new evos

Just a theory !

Thanks again Al. The car runs much better now. Pulls better, idles better, doesn't run out of power up top like it did before. I'm glad you liked driving it and it is nice to hear you sing the praises of my stock motor.

Al, didnt even notice it was you posting, lol. Good to hear the extra power was not just by the butt dyno, but also proved by data logging. Im interested in the casting flaws you speak of on regular heads, where are these usually, and how do you spot a weld that has been used to repair such a flaw? Thanks....

If you do a search under Dark Horse (highly recomend machine shop of the highest order) in these forums - he has posted some very imformative pictures and data on the stock heads and the casting flaws that are contained

Dark Horse is working on some cutting edge improvements in the rocker cap locating dowels with ARP which will be the #1 item on my holiday shopping list for sure

The welds can be seen when you take off the valve cover - I have seen them in the corners on at least 10 heads now

The stock combustion chambers are always rough and there is a bump cast into the area near the spark plugs

The blocks also have various size journals and they are all stamped on the block and crank and pistons to indicate which size is which and you order the bearings on a chart to match the sizes you read on the bock an crank

It would be so easy for to send somone into the parts bins to find the parts which all have uniform tolrances

Its quiet possible they use "blueprinted" engine parts - - still looks the same - but not the same

Just a theory of course - but my butt dyno is still measuring a 10 from that RS
