K & N Typhoon Intake advisory !!!!!!! READ
#32
I bought the typhoon a while back and had more problems with the Forge recirc BOV than the filter. Install was a B*** but when I finished I felt no performance problems other than a heavier shudder at idle. I didnt notice any HUGE gains from my butt dyno but maybe that will change when I buy my turboback next week. By the way, what's everyone's opinion on RnR racing's turboback with 02 Elim? Seems like a good product, but not alot of research info for me to pull from based off of u guys experiences with them. Any takers?

I am new to the Evo world and have about 1500 miles on mine. I installed a Greddy Ti catback (80mm) at about one week. After a month I installed a K&N Typhoon intake. The car was still in the break-in period so I avoided standing on the gas for the most part. Once the car had about 1200 on it I have run it through maybe 3 gears at full throttle. Since the intake was installed during the break-in I really don't have a good idea of how the car felt with the stocker.
The thing I noticed now is that the car pulls really hard from down low. When it gets up to around 5 or 6K the car feels like it is really "letting up", you can hear the turbo go quiet and it feels like it is really retarding the timing. You can feel the car surge a little bit when it is up there.
Anyway I am going to re-install the stocker and see how it feels.
Just my $.02 (before taxes)

yeah it will boost good down low but cuts timing and boost once you get up to about 3500-4000rpm if you have a boost gauge u will see it fall off its a real quick exact adjustment also it doesnt come down slowly just instant....

Pretty weird, I do know that it seemed that it would not get as much boost as soon as I put it on. I assumed it was due to the air temp due to the air now being sucked from the (hot) engine bay instead of the facory snorkel deal.
I'll use the butt dyno method when I switch it but it definitely feels like the ECU is doing a lot of "safe mode" stuff when the revs come up.

I'm going to install my stock intake back this weekend. I wonder if K&N is willing to exhange my typoon for drop-in filter?
