With a more mildly modded car that only runs mid 12s like mine, do you think a hyper single would be up to the task for a long life? I'd really like a twin disc, and will probably get one someday. But even though $1299 is a very good deal for that clutch specifically, its a lot of coin for me to be able to plunk down on a clutch.

I guess the reverse is true, too, in that as I mod my car more in the future, I'd really like not have to replace the clutch again as it is a lot of labor. I know the twin disc is probably the right way to go, and my stocker still is doing great so far, but I need to think about it now for when it is time to cross the bridge later on. Let me know what you think. Thanks Al.

Its a very interesting question

I think more important than the mods you are planning is the type of use that you intend to use the clutch for

There is no doubt in my mind that nothing can shift as fast or smooth as the Hyper Single - the twin puts a lot more weight on the trans input shaft

The hyper-single will last for a real LONG time if you are not lanching the car and its super light weight so your car will spool faster and make more whp

If you are going to do hard lanches and drag use - then you will need the xtra heat holding capacity of the twin

the real issue is the intense heat generated by hard drag launches when you are trying to slip the cluth on high revs

I had a well known Subaru pal who bought my Hyper single for WRX - it was no good for my 400 plus whp WRX and dragging - but he bought it used after two passes and it lasted his rally and auto cross type of use in a 300 whp WRX for a lot of miles

The other thing is that the hyper single grabs a tad more than the twin so its a bit more touchy when starting off

The single is also totally quiet unlike the twin which makes a racket

A road racer with the stock turbo shold do the single

A drag racer needs the twin

I love driving both and they each have their own advantages

I'd say I'll probably road race and autox the most, which still is not a whole lot, but will still drag race about 2x a year just to see where my mods are getting me. I killed a tranny in my WRX wagon a few years back, the input shaft sheared all the teeth from first gear. It was pretty expensive. When I had non AWD cars, I'd drag race all the time. But the Subie trannies are a little scary and the Evo Xfer cases have seen pretty widespread failure.

I appreciate your input in this and will think about it further; that's a great deal on the twin disc. I hope the stocker will last me awhile yet, as there are still less than 20k on my car. Thanks again, man.

We saw one customer who had already hit 50 k on the stock clutch

I think the stock clutch could last a real long time if you don't launch it - but I guess that's like 90% of the fun of awd is taking off like a sling shot
