HEY AL!!! Should I get a Walbro or not???
Al,
I am getting ready for the Dynoflash meet here in Tampa in July, and I just installed an intake, BOV, DP and exhaust. I am getting a Random cat next week, and probably a Walbro...Charles at Racing Zone recommended getting the Walbro. Are there any issues with driving around with the Walbro I should be aware of before I get the Dynoflash??? Will the stock pump be okay, or is a Walbro a must???
Thanks,
Steve

Tampa is great! Kinda hot, though...but I expected that...yeah, I miss you guys up there sometimes...looking forward to the Dynoflash on July 9th, though!!!
Do a search on the Walbro affecting performance. Mine ran like crap before my tune and I installed it just hours prior to the tune and only drove for a few miles. I remember Al saying if you have to drive with it before tuning, just stay out of boost. You will run rich when in boost and the Walbro is pumping mucho fuel. Just install it on site prior to your tune. Good luck.
SinCityEvo is correct, from what I've read of Al's recommendations. Of course there a bunch of people who argued and didn't beleive him and his dyno results, but I tend to beleive what the man says. If he says don't run it long without a tune, thats what I'm doing. I'm actually gonna put mine in a day or two before my July 10 tune; just enough time to get another if it's broken. And I'll definately make an effort to stay outta boost until the tune.

You have three options - 1 - drive OFF boost till I get there
2 - send it in for a base flash now and I will credit all your payment to the price of the custom tune so you can drive safely with the pump on boost till we tune it
3 - do the pump the day before I get there
What ever you do - please realize that we see a lot of misinstalations on the pump
I am planning a tech article on how to do it
In a few short words - everything that goes with the stock pump moves over to the new aftermarket pump
If you put it back the same way you will be fine

I'm gonna have Charles at Racing Zone install the Walbro...he has done installs on quite a few Evos (he owns one and also said he's coming out for the Dynoflash meet) so I feel confident with him doing the install...I'll probably schedule the install for July 8th, which will leave the 9th to correct any problems if they should arise. I am scheduled with you from 9:30pm-midnight on July 9th. See you there!
