554.4 WHP on awd dyno - whoppass!

Hey guys

Here is a comparison of my old 3037S HKS turbo set up vs. the new 3040 Turbo - only changes are the addition of the turbo and the bigger 1,000 injectors

Old boost was limited to 28 - 29 psi max

Now I am hitting a peak of 32 falling to 30 with a couple of turns left in the boost controller

For the first time, I am literally spinning the tires on the dyno - its starting to make some serious power

I can not wait to get to the track and see what it will do

BTW - I do not wish to speculate how this awd dyno jet compares to 2wd dyno jet numbers which some people are using and I certainly do not want to speculate about how much this would calcualte into so called "moon dyno" numbers - - I perfer to just let the numbers speak for themselves

PS - I drove in at hour in rush hour traffic to the dyno and drove it home - not bad for a 2.0 L street driver !

As you can see the trade off here is a bit more turbo lag for a very significant gain up top

I had to end the dyno session early so I could not max it out - but since HKS rates the 3040 with 30 more PS than the 3037 - I think we are realizing the appropriate gains

The old 529 who dyno sheet is certainly smoother as it was road tuned and I took my time on it

This one was done in a rush and most of the sesssion was spent adjusting my boost controlelr and re-routing the vac hoses

Another 10 - 20 whp is in this set up

Its got enough power now that its not really enjoyable to drive any more

Imagine a nice fast roller coaster that you enjoy riding over and over again

That was the old set up

Now imagine the roller coaster that makes you so scared you never want to get on again - thats the direction its headed into !

I never imagined that I would be making that much power without NOS - frankly - I just can not beleive that my built motor which has been through hell and back for the past 12,000 miles still holds together with this kind of force being apllied

It makes 490 ft lbs now

is a fantastic product

yep yep....hey Al now that you aren't using the 3037 can you give me a idle setup for a 3037 for a street strip terror....and i am not scared of some lag...my wrx had a T67 25g so i am just looking for something good for some pretty big numbers...since you obviously have plenty of knowledge when i comes to the 3037 and makin it work well. PM me if you could.

I'm still curious how much hp you can get from the hks 3240, NorrisDesigns made 850hp at the crank and they ran 10.1sec@139mph (but they are using water injection and JUN stroker kit)

Iam curious also about the 3240

Its to bad that other vendors and members here do not share the dyno info as openly as I and a few others like AMS and Buschur etc do

Its my thought that the 3240 would open up about another 75 whp on top at the expense of some significant lagging - how significant the lagging would be and how far you would have to go on the boost to extrat the power is something that I would love to discover

The bottom line is that I will prob never explore the HKS 3240 myself as it is a non stocking item in the USA and its special order only and VERY costly. On the other hand the 3040 I picked up was an in stock item and was on sale this month for 30% off pricing.

The reality is that I would NOT recomend the HKS kits to anyone - they are over priced and crack too easily

For the same money - or less even - you can get the fantastic AMS GT35 turbo kit which makes more power than the HKS and is made of better materials and has much better welds

OR - for about 1/2 the price you can get the Buschur turbo kit which also makes more whp and has a custom made cast manifold which will never crack

I am happy with my results - BUT - I would not have bought HKS IF I was buying now. The only reason why I bought it was at the time (last June) it was the ONLY game in town.

So you are saying that a "good"power band has to rise as the revs rise?? Why is that ???? You only want to deliver peak power at high rpms ?? Is that good ?

To me, the idea is to make as much power as posible all the way across the power band. Our goal is to make 550 whp and more from initial spool up to 9,000 rpms

Its useful to have as much power at low rpms as you have at high rpms

As for the gas - of course we run race gas - I have two 55 gal drums of it

About the roll cage - the side bar is removeable so once you take it out it is like having a car with no cage
