Many of us like jerastan are pretty invested in other tuners' parts already. We would still like to have the BR turbos as upgrade options, without having to start over from scratch with all-BR components.

What are the parts most critical to getting these turbos to spool in a reasonable amount of time? In your opinion what is probably hurting evo8power and jerastan's spool up the most?

Well, Jerastan's problem may be a boost leak from somewhere, so let him resolve his issue if he can.. but I think the intercooler and pipes are going to be the most critical items and biggest potential restrictions.. Same with the turbo downpipe and exhaust system.. I don't know its necessary to replace the parts, but they should be similar in design.. its true, any major mismatch of parts would throw the whole combination off-kilter..

My - as yet untested opinion - is that the 440 is going to be THE turbo on evos.

Remember - most of the guys out there have stock heads - valve train - unported heads and stock bottom ends. Simply put anything over 400 whp is not rational and on pump gas is not practical anyway.

Unless you are planning on building the motor and running high boost the BR580 is just totally unneeded

The main issue about turbos is that you need the supporting mods to spool a big turbo

I learned from hard work on my old WRX that minor things - like wrapping the header or prorting the throttle body etc can have significant effects on turbo spool up

MATCHING turbo size to your inteneded use and style of driving AND carefully selcting the parts and tuning to help support the car and the inteneded use are critical

For low rpms spool up - beating the stock turbo is going to be hard

Where a bigger turbo starts to shine is when you want to run higher boost over 22 psi which is hard to do on the stock turbo as it runs out fo steam. A big turbo keeps making more power as you raise the boost higher

IF you are running about at 20 - 22 psi on pump gas - IMHO its foolish to get a really large turbo

MY HKS 3040 turbo is great when you are shifting at 9,000 rpms and never fall below 6,000 rpms - on a built motor. However - on a car with only a few bolt ons and trying to run low boost it would be a giant lag monster and totaly unuseable

I am very excited to see the dyno sheets I make with aaron on the BR440 - I think it is going to be a really nice turbo with stock like spool up and an extra 50 - 75 whp on top

As for the problems with Evo8power's car - he is comming back next week with the rest of the stage 4 parts and a decent bov so we will see how he fares then

The main isssue is when you select a big turbo is to design the car's set up to enhance and support more low rpms spool up. With big turbos your top end is never the issue - spool up can make or break you

What sort of whp numbers are being seen on the BR 440? This is the turbo kit that I am most interested in?

Can't wait either I know both Dan and Aaron, pretty cool guys. Dan has helped me out a few times already. We pretty much got the same mods except that now he has a HUGE turbo in there, DAMN. Dan to bad I won't be here when you get back, I have to be in Cali for 2 weeks for work, damn, I always miss the good stuff. But I want a ride when I get back man!!! I am still trying to get this thing to run right and hold steady boost.
