Also i've never seen that algae process before very interesting.

This is one of the biggest misnomers out there. Much (if not all) of the corn used for ethanol is industrial grade corn not fit for human consumption. Add to this fact, we're still early in the game and next in the pipeline is switch grass, sugar cane and other cellulose sources. Algae isn't even on most people's radar.

True that it might be industrial corn but farming land that is fit for industrial grade corn should infact be much similar and able to sustain edible corn for human consumption.

I don't think we have a shortage of arable land. In fact, last time I checked, the government PAID people not to farm their land

And it only takes the equivalent of 4 gallons of ethanol energy to make 5 gallons of ethanol. Tell us why all taxpayers are paying for just a few to use this wonderful fuel?

That was a great video to watch thanks

Honestly i haven't done as much research on the subject as others but i do think that we are just scratching the surface w/ this alt fuel and it's development for mass usage.

You are correct, a whole lot more people could be using ethanol. It's all about personal choice. Only one person I know who drives a flex fuel SUV actually goes out of their way to use ethanol. People are basically lazy.

In some places, it's about access. I know here in Los Angeles, the biggest metro area in the country, there is only one station in all of West LA.

A few more are being added, but the pace is slow otherwise I would already be using the stuff.

We have a guy that goes from Sac to Concord to replenish his E85 (since Concord is currently the only E85 station in NorCal).

About 80 miles each way. I guess that extra 60whp and 40wtq over 100oct is his motivator.

I hope he's doing more than just filling up the Evo gas tank.

.
To be more precise, there is only one E85 station in the entire Los Angeles County

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Ang...ty,_California
Los Angeles County is a county in California and is, by far, the most populous county in the United States. Figures from the U.S. Census Bureau give an estimated 2007 population of 9,878,554 residents,[1] while the California State government's population bureau lists a January 1, 2008 estimate of 10,363,850.[2] The county seat is the City of Los Angeles.

Nice video. I need to buy a stake in that company!

My EVO has not had a drop of anything besides E-85 in it for over a year now.

What we need to make it great for a normally aspirated engines in commuter cars is a variable compression ratio system built into the head, mated up with CVT trans. When you fill up with E85 the car increases compression, making better use of the fuel, and the CVT is tuned to operate with the new torque band to increase mileage.

This could help offset the need to burn more ethanol to get the same power as gasoline. For example - with 10:1 compression on gas the motor may make 100 ft# at 4000 rpm. With 13:1 compression on E-85 the motor may make 100 ft# at 3000 rpms, so you spin the motor slower and use less fuel, but with the CVT you can acheive the same speeds. . .

you'll find that the stuff kinda sucks other than the performance benefit.
