Tips for better cold start w/ E-85 & AEM

To those of you out there with exp. tuning cars w/ AEM and E85 can you please help out with getting some better cold starting.

I posted in a thread in the ECU flash forum as i was doing some reasearch and stumbled upon Lucas English's thread which i did find useful but would like more in depth info please.

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=261691

I'm not the tuner of the car but since i have more time to do the research i'm doing the asking

Thanks for the help the car is great beside this common issue.

Whenever my engine was warm I had no problems, it was when the engine was cold that I had had probs..Dumping a large amount of fuel helped it fire then I just upped the rpm vs. coolant temp idle as well as got rid of the nasty timing advance which helped keep the car running until it was warm..

So you reduced the timing for cold starting and idling?

Yes, but I did it using the Base Low Coolant Timing Map not the idle timing values in the open loop timing maps..I know the OP was referring to AEM EMS but with the stock ecu I used the IPW adder at startup patch to get an extra big squirt of corn juice for the initial crank of the engine..Worked great..

My GSX on AEM EMS starts right up on E85 and FIC1600cc injectors. It idles at ~12ish:1 air fuel ratios. Then once it gets out of the WarmUp Enrichment temps, back to stoich.

Well thanks for the help my tuner has tried many diff things to try and help the cold start issue w/o much luck.

Temps have dipped into the low 50's at night and in the morning here in the SF Bay Area so for now we have put the E-85 thing on hold for now.

I'd like to try and get one more crack at putting up a 9sec pass before the weather really turns cold/wet so it will get a race gas tune tonight or tomorrow with hopes to make some passes on Sat TNT.

We're hoping for close to 600HP (MD) w/ about 37-40 psi to give us a good chance at a 9.999

After that we'll get back to getting the e-85 thing sorted out.

Try the 15 degrees it was out here.. Even on pump gas I'm cranking for 6-7 seconds. Two to Three tries. It sucks.. I'm waiting for summer before I switching to E85... EMS sucks on cold start up.
