E-85 tuned, stranded for 500 miles with only gas stations

Lets say I have an E-85 tune and I'm traveling 500 miles from home... only to find out that the entire country has just ran out of E-85! How do I get back home? Lets assume a reflash back to pump gas tune is not possible until I get home.

Since an E-85 tune is already pumping more E-85 through the injectors than a normal gas tune, would it be possible to just fill the car up with lower octane pump gas for the 500 mile drive home?

I assume that if you threw 93 octane gas into a car that is tuned on E-85 it would run extremely rich... so if you put in 87 octane would it suffice to get yourself 500 miles to the nearest E-85 station, without boosting too much? Any potential for damage?

Anyone have a guesstimate what the AFR would be for lower octane gas on an E-85 tune would be?

I ask this because I will be traveling 320 miles next week after getting an E-85 tune. My biggest fear is not being able to find an E-85 station and getting stranded! It will be with 1200CC injectors, dual-fuel pumps, FP Red etc.. if it makes any difference.

Thanks Guys

Why would you want to pump 87 octane? If you have a laptop, all you have to do is switch maps. Either that or after you get your tune, tell your tuner to switch to a regular map for you and drive home. When you get home, get a laptop and tactrix cable and switch back to E-85 map.

Well, I would fill up with the highest octane gas available and lower the boost down. Even with that, I would try to drive the car off-boost as much as possible.

I don't have E85 tune and know nothing about tuning a car. Just my common sense speaking. Hope this help.

I agree w/ the above post that you should have your tuner set up Tephra mapswitching so that you can switch whenever you want. I use my intercooler sprayer for my alternate maps. Otherwise, wait until after your trip to get tuned.

if you don't want to get a pump tune AND E85 tune I would at least put a limp home base map for pump gas on the map switch, that way you won't have to worry.

The safest thing to do is get tuned for 93 and for e85, have a laptop with you (if your traveling it shouldn't be a big deal), have a tactrix, and ECUflash. It is very easy to switch maps that way assuming you made sure to run all of the fuel out of your tank before the switch. Yes, this is a costly approach, but it could be the difference between a blown motor and safe trip home...

Guys I ask this because I figure an E-85 tune is typically pouring in 30% more fuel at a time than a pump gas tune.

Using E-85 on a pump-gas tune would cause you to run very lean.
Using 93 octane on an E-85 tune would cause you to run very rich.
So would running 87 or 89 octane on an E-85 tune possibly still run rich, but not engine-clogging rich and safe enough to get you home on low boost?

I know all about the map wtiching with tactrix, etc... As I said in the original post lets assume I dont have that option. Just trying to get the above questions answered by people with experience and knowledge.

Typically, E85 tunes have very advanced timing compared to pump gas timing. Running such advanced timing is not a good idea on pump gas...
