I took a peek inside my motor with a boroscope, and it looked the same. Mine has been on E85 for about a year and a half now, and looks almost identical to yours.. The only thing I dont like is that I am still getting that pesky black gunk buildup on the tips of my injectors.

Any chance you pulled your injectors? I would love to see a pic of the lower ends of those.

Look fine, I can take a photo on monday. None of the mounds of ooze that some have been saying happens. RC 1000cc

We recently pulled a customers BlueMax 1250cc injectors that have been on E85 and they where fine as well.

Just posting a cross reference to the thread about E85 possibly gunking up the injectors.

Am I the only one looking this thread so far that finds this a bit scary?? How is it possible to have audible det with nothing registering on the knock sensor? Bad knock sensor? Does E85 knock at a different frequency range than gasoline?

I find it scary too and I've been racking my brain trying to make sense of it. I haven't posted anything until now because I didn't want to cause a stir. I was "playing" with the knock sensor settings but I put it all back to stock settings and there was still audible knock with no knock logged.

Once I get the motor back together I am going to look into it with more detail...

Might be good to test the knock sensor with a tank of gasoline and a slightly aggressive tune.

Did the det that you heard sound like det with gasoline?

I'm thinking it might be possible that the condition worsened to the point where coolant in the mix might cause detonation as well. Would coolant in the cylinder change harmonics so knock is not detected?

Bryan let us know how the head work goes and how badly it was off. Did you say you had head decked last time you had motor apart?

Here's the only picture I got when we pulled my head last summer after 6 months of E85 usage.

It's amazing how clean everything is, even the exhaust was clear of carbon buildup.
