Kerosene really is a very good solvent and will be good, maybe best, to get rid of gummy residues from crashed out diesel etc from transporters or tanks not intended for ethanol fuels.

That is really awesome to know!! I just switched to E85 about 2 months ago and was just wondering what the effects of running that long term look like.

Thanks!!

So almost exactly two years later.... (give or take a couple days)

The Evo has been sitting in my garage for about 1.5 years. I haven't started it that whole time and I had the car registration lapse so I couldn't drive it anyway.

I sent the injectors out to get cleaned about four months ago in prep of getting the car ready to roll again. You can see the great results of that here.

I pushed the car out of the garage today to reinstall the injectors. I also pulled the fuel pump out of the tank to check everything out because it has been sitting in an almost full tank of the same E85 for 1.5 years. Everything looked EXACTLY like it did in the first post of this thread. Totally clean, all rubber looked fine. Nothing brittle. I didn't even take photos because it all looked exactly the same.

After priming the car with oil, the car started right up with no issues what so ever.

Just wanted to give yet another update.

Seems like perhaps the info hasn't been made widely known but there are several SAE papers that have identified the black goo as an over abundance of anti corrosive additive mixed in at the refinery.

Got links to these at all? Do you mean polyisobutylene as the anticorrosive?

the latest sae paper I've found is 2013-01-0893, but there are more papers linked in the references.

It shows that depending on what type of corrosion inhibitor and in what concentrations the deposits can increase a lot. This paper focuses on various fatty acids (monomer, dimer, trimer) and Amine as the additives.
