Quick shot of my new frugal fueling solution...

Plastic Barrel- $20 off craigslist
Washing machine drain tube- $10 at lowes
Piece of plastic pipe- Free
Hand pump from Harbor Freight- $30
Paying buddy for gas to and from station- $5 LOL

The local station is discontinuing E85, so I figured I needed to come up with a fueling solution. As you can see the initial investment isn't too much at all! Make sure if you get used barrels, that they have something that can be washed out easily... this particular barrel had soy sauce in it...

I was lucky enough to be able to store everything at a buddies Powder Coating shop which is only a few miles from the house...

Pretty cool set up & a people shot as well

Ive heard ethanol has corrosive effects on certain plastics. Curious if this soy container was designed to withstand the effects?

The local station is discontinuing it so u have to go farther to get e85 so that's why u get 55 gallons of it at a time? How far is the nearest ethanol pump to u? Hope this discontinuing process doesn't start spreading lol.

If it was PTFE, it would be worth several thousand dollars. Its probably HDPE.

The Japanese built Evo will probably pick up a few ponies from the soy sauce residue alone!

Rice is better with soy sauce! To be honest when I cracked the barrel open I almost threw up, it was disgusting... Now the other barrel I have had BBQ sauce, and that was impossible to clean, I have to swap it for another...

So u have ur buddy take u to the station that's 30 miles away and fill up some drums so it's convenient, just trying to see the advantage. I guess I'm lucky I've got like 5 e85 stations within 5 miles or so

Don't you need a forklift to offload that?

Yes, when I used the further station before, I would go fill the car and 10 gallons to take home every sunday... the advantage is an extra 80 horsepower in the florida heat... A 55 gallon drum should last me around a month...

To unload it is easy, we use a motorcycle ramp and slide it down... however the shop has a forklift but it has a hyd leak at the moment...

Lol I understand that advantage of the ethanol fuel itself, I guess it would be a royal pita if the nearest station was 30 miles away! U guys stay 85% all year round down there? Most the stations here have starting going to summer blend and one station in particular has been at 85% for awhile, few are still at 75% also there are a couple stations I steer clear of because their ethanol looks crappy as in dirty looking and smells like gas too much, the other stations it's nice and clean and separates when testing a lot better and quicker.....

I'll try to get a pic of my setup, but I prefer to use old race gas drums and a siphon pump that you can get from Jegs or Summit.

FWIW, two average strength men can unload a 55 gallon drum by hand from the back of a truck if you only put 35 gallons in it. I do that, and fill the other 20 gallons into fuel jugs. Off load by hand when I get home, and then pour the jugs into the drum.
