Storing E85 in truck bed

I'm thinking about installing s fuel cell or auxiliary fuel tank in the bed of my truck to pick up and store E85 for use in two of my cars. The station is about 16 miles away and I thought it would be easier to buy 20 gallons or so at a time and then dispense from the truck, rather than going there with the cars out of my way. I also would rather have the E85 in my truck, which is parked outside my house, rather than in my garage where the fire hazard could threaten my home.

Anyone else do this? What sort of tank do you use? I'd like to carry the E85 in a way that won't kill me if I get in an accident in the truck, so I'm thinking a real tank or safely mounted cell, rather than just barrels or loose cans in the bed.

Thanks for any ideas on how to set this up.

Rich

Id like to know what others use as well. I'm recieving a 55gal drum for free, but not sure if I should store that in my garage that gets to 130* or so during summer.

They're not cheap, but they do make those large tanks with built-in pumps and such for trucks. Generally used by construction companies and stuff for diesel.

Yeah that was what I originally thought of, but can you carry gasoline in one? It's more volatile than diesel

Yes you can store gas in the ones used for construction. We had two fuel tanks for machines one gas and one diesel.

Good to know. I wasn't sure because I came from the tunneling industry and we could only have diesel on the jobsite because you can't use gasoline underground or MSHA will give you a nice big fine

Off topic OP...Try insulating garage doors and watch your temps drop drastically.

Would love to but even with that and fans inside its still is in the range of temp that the fuel will combust with only a small spark. How safe would a plastic 55gallon drum be? This is also a rental property and we can't do anything drastic like a split ac system.

I store my e85 in a 55gallon plastic drum. I have been storing it in my non-a/c shop for over 5 months now.
