My ECUFlash track results

Last night was only able to get 3 passes in, I arrived at the track with a solid base map and slowly made adjustments from there. For reference, since I've had the ECU Flash program I have been to the track 3 times with 3 different configurations as follows.

first trip: MBC @ 1.35bar, K&N panel filter, 93 pump gas
run 1:
60' - 1.935
1/8 - 8.543
MPH - 81.42
1/4 - 13.312
MPH - 104.13

run 2:
60' - 1.989
1/8 - 8.565
MPH - 81.73
1/4 - 13.368
MPH - 103.63

This was with a very consertive tune on a basically stock 04 GSR w/ssl which is the slowest & heavest USDM EVO mitsu made, lol.

second trip: MBC @ 1.35bar, K&N panel filter, 3" TBE, 93 pump gas, walbro
run 1:
60' - 1.843
1/8 - 8.296
MPH - 82.40
1/4 - 13.001 (so damn close to 12.9)
MPH - 105.95

run 2: (misplaced the slip but remember most of the details)
60' - 1.8
1/4 - 13.035
MPH - 105.64

Again, I ran this time twice in a row (3 times actually) to make sure it was repeatable. The ECU was still pulling a little timing in the 6k range and I knew there was more in the car.

Thrid trip (last night): weather was hot and very humid. I had the same mods as before but just a little more time with the ECU Flash resulted in the following 3 passes.
run 1:
60' - 1.735
1/8 - 8.146
MPH - 83.96
1/4 - 12.789
MPH - 106.53

run 2:
60' - 1.775
1/8 - 8.172
MPH - 84.13
1/4 - 12.799
MPH - 104.89

run 3:
60' - 1.809
1/8 - 8.172
MPH - 83.65
1/4 - 12.788
MPH - 107.44

As the car and the night cooled off the MPH went up higher. On the second run I'm not sure what happened with the trap speed as the 1/8th MPH was the highest of all but the trap was pretty low.

Once the data logger comes out I am going back to 're-tune'. Also would like to push the boost up a little higher on pump gas and eventually try some race gas with more boost.

A little history on my car, its an 04 GSR w/SSL, there was around 1/3 tank of sunoco 93 gas for all the runs & the car has zero weight reduction, as in spare tire, jack and factory sub. Ohh yeah she also has 67k miles on the engine.

I'm going off my memory for the times, I have the actual slips at home I will post later on to compare the 1/8th mile times/MPH.

Comments are welcome.

Care to share what you did tune wise from every run to make those gains?

107 mph is pretty good with those mods and only 19.5 psi

Great job. As I learn more about this ECUFlash, the more I like it. I think it's really going to help a lot of people (like yourself) fine tune the car.

Thanks for the kind words, I still have a long way to go though.

For logging I'm using just a pocket logger to monitor my timing. I also have an LC-1 w/XD-16 gauge hooked up so I can get an accurate A/F reading. I had only 1* of timing being pulled on my first two passes at @ 6k & 7k so I added fuel in those two areas of the map. A/F through out the runs was mid to high 10s... nice a safe.

I have the boost set conservative because I don't trust the stock gauge and I want to wait until there is a good logger available to monitor engine knock. On the highway in 5th gear it will spike to almost 1.5bar in 5th gear but at the track it will never even touch 1.4bar.

From personal experience in drag racing, your run with higher 1/8th mph and lower 1/4mph sounds like you held third longer, and spent less time in fourth.

Nice runs on that boost, though. Good job. :-)

Nate, I think you and I spoke at etown before, though it was a few years back and I was driving a different car... what color is your VR4?

anyways, these are nothing special as far as times go for an EVO. it was more or less to document my progress and improvments as I go forward. I am a firm believer in backing up power modifications at the track rather then dyno to show the gains.

there will be more to come as I have a couple other parts I want to test out...

My VR4 is maroon with bronze volks. There is nothing wrong at all with going to the track to test your modifications, but, as I'm sure you know, you have to include the driver as a factor. It took me a LONG time to be a pretty consistent driver. Lots of money spent on Atco entrance fees. :-)
