Further questions on EcuFlash w/ EcuTek
Try putting a battery charger on the battery to boost the voltage while flashing or reading..
The Unlocker uses a hardware recovery code to get into the ECU, it works on other cars of the same year and with locked ECU's, so its likely either a low voltage to the ECU, or a driver problem with your tactrix cable.
FWIW, the new version of ECUFlash 1.29 and 1.29a both automatically recognize the cable and no longer have an option to set com port settings. BUT the cable does have to be plugged in BEFORE you launch ECUFlash.
I do not know how well it deals with other serial devices running the same chipset though, so if you have anything else plugged in that has a serial device, such as a wideband, logger, PDA, etc, just unplug it if you still have trouble.
You are a freaking genius. You're worth every support penny I'm not paying you! Once I charged the battery it worked like a charm. Odd that the car will start fine but the ecu won't read... Thanks so much for helping me out so quickly, I know you must get frustrated with newbs like me bothering you all the time.
Edit: See Edit at bottum, people with questions about the init/immobilizer code should read; all others just skip to bottum.
So MJ's ECU Unlocker works wonders, it's so simple, and works great; but now that i have my rom image, i am plagued with yet another problem once again. I have looked under every possible setting/menu/parameter, and i cannot seem to find the "Init code" or "immobilizer code" anywhere! Are those just slang terms for a different parameter i should be looking for?
The only place i see anything about an "Init code" is on the right hand side of the application in the status window section that displays the metadata; but this information cannot be changed (correct?), i can't even type in that section.
So can someone give me distinct newb directions to where i need to go in order to change my "Init/Immobilizer code." (Also, are the two different code terms the same thing?)
Thanks!
Edit: I searched, and got lucky enough to find 1 thread that had the same question asked, and answered. So now i will answer it here for future reference for all newb ECUFlash users who have the same question.
Answer: Without any rom open, go to OPTIONS on the top drop down menu, and change the "user level" to developer. Now open your rom image, and in the "parameters" section scroll down to "Misc." and the codes will now be viewable. Immobilizer and Init are two seperate codes, both carrying out 2 seperate actions.

The other day I was working on a 9 that seemed to be locked, so I broke out the unlocker and was able to read the ecu. It was only after reading the ecu that I realized the headlights were on..
I think in this case it was low voltage causing the locked ecu symptoms, the the unlocker still worked.
This is a pretty common problem. I am making a bench harness for the IX ECU so I can reflash outside of the car if the problem is bad enough. Its basically just an addon to my original bench harness.
An alternative is to apply an approximately 14v voltage to the init pin while the reflash sends the init code and it should also allow it to reflash though you have to do it manually. While you start the flash sequence, then stop once your in.. This is the "Old" way of doing it, and is somewhat error prone.

have been having issues with no response to any known code on on my ecu for a while, checked all main things, apart from i cant find an older version of ecuflash to try, have tried the battery and so on, would really like to access this, if anyone can help would appreciate it
thanks
