MIVEC tuning
MIVEC tuning
So has any IX owners tuned thier MIVEC mapping yet? I know some of the tuners here do adjust it, but I doubt they are going to divuldge any of the secrets. Just would like to get some information on it, as some tuners feel alot of power can be made via MIVEC map adjustment.
Anyone with info they would like to share?

I tuned our shop EVO9 RS and made 291 wtq 288 whp on a Mustang dyno that reads similarily to Buschurs.
We had to end our session early as we didn't have enough time. Tuning the MIVEC is really difficult, one of the most difficult cars I've tuned ever. And my experiences dates back from 98' when I first started.
mods are
Turboback exhaust (tanabe 2.75 dp, custom Speedelement 3" test pipe, Garage HRS exhaust), HKS drop in filter, Hallman boost controller.

Like what are the maximum values you could use safely, and what the numbers show in the map cells relate too? Basically some starting points on the MIVEC map and such.
Thanks!

This was my first shot educated guess based on previous fiddling with VVTs, info from Vishnu and another tuner. I gather that some take it to 28.8 degrees. It appears that I'm hitting 14.5 PSI at 2300 RPM now which is a small improvement, perhaps 100-200 RPM.

Top is modified, bottom is JDM stock.
I didn't see the reason for retarding it again after they advanced it so I advanced it in a large early midrange block where I hit peak boost and make lots of torque. The changes seem to spool up the turbo slightly earlier along with richer fuelling it feels torquier. Change of boost has a much larger effect though.

I have only been focusing on the upper reaches of the map at first, but above 6000 the 0* portion of that map (100-300 load cells) definitely benefits from more timing. Deadspot is almost gone above 6000-7000 range.
What I have noticed is that the map goes in steps of 4.8. 1st things first are we sure that this # translates directly into degrees of advance/retard? 28 degrees seems like alot of range.
