Any base flash suggestions?

I have a stock IX. Here's what I'm going to try:

1) Slightly increase AFR across most of the high-octane map... some more than others

Stock

Modified

2) Slightly increase timing advance in the high-octane Map 2 by one or two degrees in some areas

Stock

Modified

3) Change all boost limit values to 255.

4) Change all boost desired values to 159.4 for all three load tables

Does anyone have any suggestions? Perhaps I'm being too conservative. Any suggestions for the MIVEC map? That thing looks quite strange and I'm not sure I understand the potential effects of changing the intake valve timing. I would think that the higher the RPM the more the timing advance should be, but the stock map doesn't seem to back this up.

I don't have a wide-band, but I always log a couple pulls with EvoScan to make sure I'm not getting more than a couple knock counts.

Is it necessary to remove the pill if you're going to mess with boost values?

I don't think it's necessary. In fact I don't think it's a good idea to remove it because it results in significant boost spikes. A better idea would be to change the pill size like Works does with their tunes. I'm also always on the look out for more info on boost control. I have already tried the boost control changes and it did seem to reduce the taper. I'm planning on trying the timing changes tonight.

Well, I beat you to it. I tested out your maps on my own car this afternoon. I think they are somewhat conservative - I didn't really feel a difference in performance. I logged several runs and knock was minimal - a few 2 counts and 1 counts mostly at low to mid RPM in second and third gears. High RPM knock counts were pretty much always 0. My car is 100% stock other than the map.

Yeah I'm blocked in my driveway right now so I can't test my maps. My parents have a bunch of people over so I can't get out to test the maps.

I'm not surprised you weren't getting any significant knock. I probably should bump up the timing a bit more. I'm thinking that more power is to be had from timing than from leaning out the fuel. In fact I think it's pretty common to add so much timing that you have to add more fuel to get rid of the knock. Man I wish I had a dyno and wide-band.

I'm still hoping some of the more experienced tuners on here could help us out in getting a good base flash put together.

I'm thinking a wideband and ECU+ for the IX are going to be a worthwhile investment..

I saw that ECU + is like $500, is that right???
I am using evoscan and could ask for some improvements but it gets the job done.

ECU+ is $950 for the IX but I think it's cheaper for the VIII

My only advice would be to change one thing at a time. Don't change multiple variables (e.g. tables) at the same time. Dial in your AFR first with a wideband (leave it slightly on the conservative side), then boost, then timing.

Dyno tuning FTL, unless you plan on only driving your car on a dyno.

Turbo boost error correction should be 0? What does that do, prevent tapper?
