Unsafe timing map?

I ran into a local evo owner, and he asked me to take a look at this maps cause he said his car felt weak up top. His mods are tbe, exhaust manifold, upgraded intercooler, mbc set to 24lbs on 93 octane, and I dont remember if he has cam gears or not. One of the first maps I took a look at was his High/Low Octane timing map, the high and low timing maps were both equal to each other. His car was tuned by one of the local shops around here, and it appears he is running way to much timing? Is there any reason that an evo should or could be running that much timing? He did not let me log his car to see how much knock he was getting. It appears that the tuner does not have the foggiest about tuning an evo. Just want to know is it me or isnt this way to much timing?

Yeah that timing is ALOT high under high load. Like double what it should be, if not that much at least 50% higher anyway.

May be he wanted to work on his blown motor. So did you fix the timing on it.

WOW...Assuming that peak boost/torque happens @ 3500 rpm and he is hitting the 240 load column, then his timing is around 17 degrees whereas a stock map is around 2*

the fuel map appeared a little too aggressive, but not as crazy as the timing maps; both high and low octane fuel maps were the same.

I'd be curious to see what sort of logs this thing is throwing..

I have run timing numbers like that before, in some cases more timing on pump gas.. But that was with an HKS DLI2 however the boost was like 20psi or so..

+1 that is the first thing that went through my mind when I saw his timing map.

I asked if he would let me log his car, but he said no didnt want take the chance of getting a ticket etc. etc. You said you run timing numbers like that before; just curious but how much knock did you see ( I am assuming you saw knock)?

Why didn't he let you log the car to see how much is knock is occurring?

That much timing at peak torque is just way too much. I wouldn't be surprised if the knock sum is maxed out or close to being maxed out at that point.

Who tuned it? The shop that tuned his car was a local shop called "Dyno Inc."; I believe they already have a bad rep.

Well, its hard to say, at the time it was much harder to log knock, however it definitely was getting knock simply because it was inconsistently producing power.

I always tend to run lower boost and more aggressive timing in general..
